Normal Boost In Cold Air

I was just wondering if it is normal to have less boost when the air temp is really cold out. Right now it is only 18 degress outside. I think my boost gauge was reading between 10 and 12 pounds of boost under load.

Yes it's normal to see less boost in colder air.
Just curious, do you have the stage kit? that seems a bit high for 18 degrees and stock.

Less boost in cold weather because less is required, the air is denser so less is needed....now if you could over ride this...

The reason you are seeing less boost in those types of temperatures, is that the colder temps have denser air which creates more horsepower. (think cold air intake) But since this isnt a bold on an just caused by nature, the ECU controls the boost so that it stays around the stock 260/250hp. This is true also in the summer when the temps are much hotter outside (80-90), the boost may go as high as 17/18lbs, to make up for the less dense air.

the 260/250hp cap is only true on a stock car
With the stage1 kit, it is much more

Thank you everyone for your responses. No, my car does not have the stage kit installed. I wish it did though. Need to do some convincing to my wife first. So far, the improved fuel consumption hasn't worked.

That's awkward, I've seen spikes up to 20-22lbs in the past 2 days, and that's WITHOUT turning on Comp. Mode where I see 25-26lbs normally since I'm Staged... I'm in CT and it's been in the 20's + 30's here.

It was 16 coming home last night and I was seeing 20-22psi and surging to 24psi @ 100mph, tons of top end pull with stage kit. However today I lost all boost, happened to me before, this car has been to the dealer so many times for only having it 18months. It's going in again monday and I gave them the TSB post on the lower MAP sensor rubbing/chaffing against the AC comp, so hopefully this will fix the problem. I just love it when it runs smooth, but when this **** happens I want to drive it off a cliff. Last time I took it in for this problem they replaced the turbo back in february, I've had the connections soldered, changed my BPV spring to the Dejon, K&N filter, clamps tightened and re tightened, if this next visit doesn't provide some results I'm going to drive it through the showroom window.

Does the fuel consumption argument have any correlation with a heavy foot and G-force exhilaration? Maybe you should let her take the wheel sometime. Then maybe then she'll want some "sweeter kool-aid" like you do.
