Possible purchase

I have found a 2008 HHR SS w/auto. with 15,000 miles that appears in great shape. I have to drive a ways to look at it but wanted to know if $16,000 sounds like a good price. Also I have read alot of reviews about the HHR, several mention water leaks into the interior, is this a common problem and is there anything I should look for when I test drive the HHR SS. Thanks

I have never experienced any water leaks and don't believe most have either. Go to Edmunds.com and check out the value on the car. Sounds a bit high priced to me. Mileage is certainly a plus. HHRs are a great car but depreciate quickly and nice used ones can be had for a good price.

I also think the price could be better, but like AJ said, the miles are very low for that year... Most that have the water leak have a sunroof...does that one? I have a sunroof but have never had that problem in the year I've owned it, knock on wood...

There's a reason you hear so much about problem...people like to complain or criticize, but never praise. People who have good experiences will just keep on living, while people with problems will tell you 100,000 times. So there are more people who never have a problem with there car than people who do.

Run a CarFax check on it, but because of the relatively low miles and if it seems perfect then that price is reasonable.

If you buy it you'll love yourself for doing so. I have a sunroof and I've never had any water leaks at all a year and a half later. When you test drive it look for anything you would look for with any car. How you personally feel while driving. If its how I feel when I drive mine, it'll be in your driveway that night.

Many of the water leak problems are on the older (06 mostly) HHR's. They would leak into the ventilation system and blow out fan motors and resistors. There was a design change sometime in the 07 model year that fixed that particular leak. There have been a few other comments for different leak areas, but I haven't seemed to notice too many people on here complaining.

I think it's a decent price actually. Maybe I say that because I paid more for an 11k mile '08 several months ago.

Pull the trigger! These cars are lots of fun.

Agree with crazycarkid...there are always gonna be lemons that you'll hear about first, but if you're buying from a reputable dealer, you'll have recourse if the car fails.

About one year in now and no water leaks from my sunroof or anywhere else so far. And we've had some hellacious rain around here this season!

even better price

Well I now have found a 2008 HHR SS with 22,000 miles on it, about 7,000 more then the one I first asked about. I can get this one for $14,600. I may have to check it out. I still believe the first one I looked at isn't bad but I guess if I keep looking I may find an even better deal. The better the price the more I know I will enjoy, and maybe be able to upgrade sooner with the money I save. I really do enjoy this site and the helpful input. Thanks
