Replying to the Texas meet thread made me think of this but in being courteous and not wanting to hijack the thread I though it better to post a new one. (jeez, how full of it can I be. Ain't I just such a great person)

Gimme some recommendations on radar/laser detectors. I haven't had the need to use one since selling my '73 Challenger back in '92 (which I regret SO much). I think the basic stuff is of the biggest concern. I would like it small, very accurate detection (sensitivity is important but don't want a bunch of false alarms). I want definitely want laser detection. I want it technologically current. Latest and greatest. Price is important. I am a big believer of you get what you pay for but don't want to be a sucker. I do not want to be spending money on a name. A hundred extra bucks just because the name on the front happens to be the coolest of the year is not for me. It could have the name 'Lamo' for all I care as long as it works to my expectations. I am not big on feeling better about my self because I was more "ethical". Meaning, jamming is fully acceptable to me.

With all that said, what are the recommendations? Please limit to personal experience. No "I've got a buddy with XYZ..." posts (unless you've been sitting next to him as he/she passed a smoky doing 100 in a 55 ).

Thanks to all.

Peace

escort 9500i....gps locator to store false alarms and previous speed traps, even saved me from radar one time which i thought was impossible, very little laser use in my area tho so no need for "laser shifter"

invisicord to the mirror 12v, it is also hidden by putting the sun visor down in case a cop pulls me over

i move it to my other vehicles

Condoms....

Seriously.... Valentine 1 is one of the best available. I've had one since they first came out (Escort before that... same engineer/owner). Saved my arse numerous times!

Well I got both and I like them both equally... The only thing I like more about my V1 is the direction finder of where the target is coming from....

How does the invisicord work? Do you actually power it from the rear view mirror?

yep u power it from the rear view mirror.. when u turn the ignition on/off the detector comes on/off

the invisicord had two metal poles which slide directly into the holes at the back of the mirror supply .. if u turn u're mirror u can see that the supply cable snaps right out .. the red is 12v and the black is negative..once the poles are in u just secure it with a very small piece of electrical tape.. whole process takes two minutes...

there are basically 2 diferences between the v1 and 9500i

the valentine has the advantage of the directional arrows
the 9500i has the gps locator

the 9500i can be updated via the internet.. the v1 can be updated by the manufacturer

You need what I use. I can guarantee it to work 100%. So much that if you ever get a ticket for speeding, I'll pay it!

What is this miracle product? Go the dang speed limit.

lol but really. Valentine 1 has some awesome products.

A few years back a friend of mine had a V1. It was very sensitive, but it was going off everywhere for every little bit of stray X band noise in the spectrum. So much so that it was pretty much useless. I currently have the 9500i and love it. If it ever makes noise it's cuz a radar gun is in use. No false alerts (once you've "memorized" the regular signals that generate false alerts). Even if the V1 were slightly more sensitive, I would still recommend the 9500i by leaps and bounds because the alerts are meaningful and useful.

Escort 9500ci. See https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/hhr-ss-45/passport-9500ci-install-15687/

This is the best detector I have ever had by far. Learns false alarms, and knows when a CHP is parked next to a previous false alarm (like a speed sign). Expensive to have professionally installed, but non-detectable and stealthy. Also jams (shifts) lasers, front and rear. Check out all my photos on this post.
