I would much prefer the manual over the slushbox (auto).

My only issue with the auto is when climbing a steep hill w/cruise control on it sometimes overboosts and shoots me over the rise too fast.
Could be an issue if there's a speed trap on the other side.

I used to commute in some of Boston's worst traffic in a 90 Eagle Talon with a ACT 2600 lb pressure plate clutch.
THAT sucks in gridlock.

But... the HHR SS clutch is no where like an act 2600, as a matter of fact the HHR SS is probably the lightest clutch I have ever experienced in any stick shift. My project van has an act 2100 in it, after driving that for 2-3 days then go and drive my SS, I feel like I slamming the clutch through the floor board, thats how light the clutch is. Make sure you drive a 5 spd SS before deciding on that auto, I bet you will be surprised.

I will.. The black one im looking at is auto but a silver one up north is 5spd. The closest 5spd is over 2 hours away.. I dont mind the drive just finding time to get up there hehe

I'd go with the 5 spd. Radio, bluetooth, and gauges can easily be added after the purchase, but it would be hard to swap in a 5 spd, and the 5 spd has more power to start.

dealer near me has a silver hhr ss loaded (performance package) new for 21,999.00. it is a five speed.

But I really like that low pitched rumble when the torque converter locks up at 45 mph and 1500 rpm. I've never had a 4 cylinder car that cranks under 2000 rpm at 60mph.
