Spare tire fyi

If this has been discused im sorry but after hitting a massive pothole sat night and recieving a front left flat i am kinda pissed at well lets say everybody! I call gm roadside what a joke all they really do is call a tow truck for you and tell you where they can tow it! YIPPY Then because its a front wheel my spare doesn't fit so I am on the side of the tollway contemplating how to get this thing home well i put the spare on the back and put the back tire on the front! OK going home now. So I call dealer this morning and they say that is what gm calls for with a flat front tire but the dealer says for your trouble I will give you dealer pricing on a new tire........286 freaking dollars. Well iI get on line and tirerack is delivering it for 153.00 to my door and a friend is gonna help me out with mounting and balancing so hopefuly this is resolved but if you are lucky enough to drive near chicago and hit a pothole(which you will) keep this in mind. Thanks for listening I feel better already

Not sure how your state laws are, but when I lived in South Carolina, I hit a pothole and the county had to reinburse me for the tire.

Sorry but I had to. You could try that here in Michigan but I don't think it would get you very far. But it's worth checking on.

IL has a fund that will reimburse for half of the cost of pothole damage, but only if you are on a state road. They figure half the responsibility is on the driver to avoid the hole. The city of Chicago also has a fund, but dont hold your breath waiting since I know people still waiting since last year. For both programs you need to drive to the nearest police station and file a police report before getting the damage fixed.

You might want to get an alignment if the pothole was big enough to give you a flat tire.

Damn that sucks. And on the tollway. You know we pay for that lovely road every time we drive it, they ought to cover pothole damage (but of course that'll never happen)

Sorry to hear about your luck. That really sucks!

A pot that big might have damaged your rim. Make sure you give it a good going over.

So you're saying the spare can only be used in the rear?

I think the spare tire will fit on the front of a regular HHR but the owners manual recommends that a full size wheel be moved from the rear to the front and the spare be installed on the rear. This helps with driveability, steering, acceleration and braking.
