SS first fill up

I filled my tank for the first time. I drove 365 on a tank and I put 16.3 gallons of gas in the tank. About 22 MPG for mainly City/Fwy driving.

How did you put 16.3 gallons in a 16 gallon tank? You must have filled all the way from empty to the top of the neck.

congrats. I read the 2008 Official Chevy HHR press catalog GM sent me when I bought my HHR...(it's a beautiful booklet, btw)...and it states that 480 miles to empty is about the max these cars can go...and it footnotes that is for the 2.2 motor.

Last night I tanked up my 2LT 2.4...and it said "473 miles to empty"...I was stoked.

One way I justified buying a HHR was the cost savings at the pump. My last car used to cost me $56 to fill up from 2 gal. to empty...I could go about 380 miles(18 gallon tank)...and that was Premium as recommended by the manuf.

I can fill up for less, and go farther...so I will save save SAVE!!!

congrats on getting such good mileage on your SS...it does look like you want that mileage to peel off quickly so you can enter 'round 2" of the Turbo Boost phase, huh?

I filled up from about 5 miles after the low fuel indicator came on. It cost me 45.30 or something for premium @ 3.22 a gallon. I don't think ill keep putting premium in it, but i thought the first tank deserved it. Of course, it cost me 32 to fill up my old car and it got like 17 miles per gallon downhill with a tailwind while I inhaled. So, I should expect a good fuel savings using regular.

I would say that you should just stick with premium. I know many LSJ guys (2.0 supercharged cobalt/ion) that had huge problems w/ running regular. Not only the loss in performacne (extremely noticeable) but it ate up spark plugs from detonation.

Maybe mix 89 w/ E85? that is what I do in the Wifes TBSS. E85 is 105 octane. I would do 11 gallons of 89 octane, plus 4 gallons of E85. This would yeild just over 93 ocatane, and under 23% ethanol content (many tests have shown running up to 30% causes no issues on a non-flexfuel vehicle). The positive note is E85 acts as a natural intercooler (alcohol pulls more heat out of the air going into a boosted motor then gasoline) plus it slightly leans out the mixture.

isn't that bad to mix the two? I Thought that you had to have a different type throttle body. due to the fact that gas is petroleum based, where e-85 isn't?

Using E85 Not A Good Idea. True it has higher octane, but to get the correct fuel/air mixture it needs to run richer. So you wil be running too lean in a vehicle not designed to sense E85 and provide appropriate fuel enrichment. This may be especially true for the direct injected engines like the 2.0 Ecotec which are at the lean end already. I would be really concerned even mixing it as you suggest.
