SS Test Drive

Hello All SS owners,

I will be test driving a 2009 SS this weekend and would appreciate a little input from the SS owners.

What should I be seeing on that little gauge on the driver side pillar?

I just want to make sure that the turbo is working as it should.

Can you suggest other things I should be aware of?

Humorous replies are most welcome.

Many thanks.

We test drove ours, it had 8 miles on the clock, Loved the feel of the steering. Its 20% faster than non SS models. Drivability was very cool. brakes felt good. Watch the torque steer at about 40 lol Overall this car WILL put a big grin on your face as it did ours, we bought after 30 test miles. We drove Ruby away at 38 miles. Wife uses to work daily, it always is a pleasure to drive for her. {I have work truck} but when we head out, Clean & detailed. Shes always a head turner and just a blast to drive normal or spirited. Yer not going to be disapointed

Make sure it doesn't have a clutch.

If you put it on the carpet and it sets you back in the seat, you are good to go!

If you stomp on the skinny pedal and can't help but smile... you got boost

Boost on the gauge will vary.

Stock SS will see 12-17 PSI depending on conditions. Odds are in most areas you will see 12-15 PSI.

If it has the upgrade it will see 21-24 PSI. 25 Is rare. GMPD said we normally will not see over 25 with the upgrade. Look at the fuel lid and if it says Premium Recomended it is stock if it says Premium Required it has the kit. Also there will be a GMPD sticker under the hood with the Emissions number.

Floor it untill around 100 if you suddenly loose boost and your car stop going your turbo is broke. Ask me how I know. I never did a wide open throttle run on the test drive and needless to say didn't find the issue until I had the car about 5 days.

As for boost, I have an auto and it goes up to around 15 and then settles in around 10-12 typically when getting on it.

after your test drive, if you have a grin from ear to ear, the turbo is working.
