So are you guys implying that +42 is the only offset that can be used on my SS without some sort of damage being caused?!?!? That would be really lame. I want to go to a 18x8 with a lip, and bringing them out a hair would be cool as well. What wheel specs would I look for to get that desired look without any damage being done to my car?

as far as i know the tollerances can be +35 to +42 that can be used... so anywhere in that range "should" work... your best bet would be to contact the rim manufacturer directly if possible and ask them about the minimum and maximum fitment of the rim

a 7.5" rim will have more of a range than say an 8" rim would as 1/2" is equal to 12.7millimeters....

an 18"x8" with a 40mm offset will fit but an 18"x8" wheel with a 35mm offset might rub depending on what size tire you use... again contact the wheel manufacturer directly for exact fitment :)

This sucks! I am trying desperately to find wheels that I like and that come in a offset that will look good, but most everything I find that I like is 45mm x 8", and I assume that will be too far tucked, which is the opposite of what I am looking for. I want something wider and maybe something that will stick out a little further than stock, and something in black. I want to make sure that I get the right look with whatever I buy. So what am I looking for? Slightly wider than stock, maybe sticks out a little further than stock. What dimensions should I be looking for to achieve this look?

you could go with 20's but thats a pretty small sidewall but it would definately give you that wide look your after

specs:

20"x8x5" 40mm offset
with a tire size of:

225/30ZR20

hope that helps

if you want 18's still try:
18"x8" 40mm offset
tire size:
225/45ZR18

hope that helps :)

spacers could also be an option too?

On MindDrives response, I had 20s before, and definitely like the look, but don't like the feel, both in roughness and in weight, so I have decided to stick with the 18s.

Don Juan, I think you nailed it on the head. I have been thinking about spacers as well. I figured if I got something with a tighter tuck I could just get spacers to compensate for the difference. Not sure what, if anything, on these cars, adding spacers would also require (i.e. longer bolts).

not to sound like you dont know anything... but be very carefull when using spacers!!! one tiny little piece of anything gets inbetween the spacer and the rim or the spacer and the rotor/drum and your rim will wobble to high hell-- maybe not right away at first, especially with new tires, but once the tread starts to wear off, youll notice it in the patterns as abnormal wearing

not to mention they make tire rotations quite painfull (loss of hair) if you over torque one lug nut more than the rest with chrome plated rims (slight denting of the chrome over time) but with 18" rims, i doubt you would have to get the hubs/drums restudded to accomodate larger lug bolts as there is still quite a bit of threads left, unless you went with a 5-10mm spacer

i think i know the look your going for- outter part of the rim and tire flush with the fenders? but dont assume that say a 45x8 offset will give you a narrow/tucked under look.... the offset is just from the backside of the lug mount part of the rim to the back side of the lip, the front side 'look' depends basicly on the design and structure of the rim wether or not its going to look tucked under

again if all else fails, contact the manufacturer of the rims to try and see if they have any pictures available, or could give you some insight as to the overall outside apearance of where the rim sits in relation to the fenders etc etc...

BTW, what rims ARE you looking at???

Check here. Put in your stock tire and wheel, then in the 2nd area put in the new ones.
