Starting to get ready for winter. Questions

I am probably going with a set of 16 inch wheels and snow tires but I was wondering how the SS handle the snow with the stock tires? Any experiences??? Thanks

I went all last winter with the stock rims and tires.
Overall the tires were not terrible, but not the best I have ever had in the winter.
I would give them a 7 out of 10 for use during the winter.

I would give the SS stock tires a 5 out of 10, especially if you have the added HP with the stage kit. Definitely buying snow tires this year.

As for me, my 2003 Chevy Astro AWD will take me through winter, from now on.

However, for those who will use their SS during the winter season, I am wondering if 16 inch wheel will fit? I'm not sure... especially those with Brembo brakes.

16 inch Fit and work fine if you do not have Brembo brakes. If you do have them you need to use 7 inch.

The stock tires are not great but the HHR with electronic controls and FWD will still get through.

I went with Goodyeat Triple Treads mostly to protect the factory wheels from getting trashed and the Goodyears are great in snow.

Note the SS rides a little better but loosed a touch of turn in feel. Over all the 16's work fine accept for the big brakes.

The stock tires and rims worked well enough here in Chicago but I quickly switched them out to a set of steelies with Blizzack rubber. I was more concerned about the salt compound eating into the stock wheels and having the more aggressive snow tire didn't hurt.

I was able to find the steelie/Blizzack combo on Craigs List for $500 and the guy even installed them for me.
