Just comparing other vehicles HP to our 2.0 turbo and found that Subaru has a 2.5 thats reported of having 305hp from the factory. I think their torque is a little less though. I was wondering if anyone on this forum has come up against one of these and was it fast or did our 2.0 hang with it? I like to know what battles to pick if I come upon one of the road. I will say though either way, their engine is still a little bigger so ours is still tops for hp per cubic inch/litres. I would think though ours would have to have the GM upgrade to compete. Just wondering.

Just went back and checked, the WRX 2.0 engine has a reported torque of 290 at 4000 rpms and 305 hp at 6000 rpms. I also noticed that their vehicle with that engine and I believe the STI version is listed at about $35,000 so its substantially more than ours, (I know it does have all wheel drive but that's alot of money) I would get a Camaro SS for about the same money and get 426 hp.

from what i last read/heard,the wrx was rated at 260hp(up from the 225ish it use to be). that sounds like the sti you are talking about. don't let the numbers scare you. 305 means after they get it to the ground through the awd system, they may actually be putting down around 260. the first sti was rated at 285 and to the wheels anywhere between 230-245.

stock vs stock from a roll we might edge them out(5 speed guys).

stock sti vs...me...i'm sure i will take it pretty easily. from roll or dig.

mod vs mod-meaning we have the same bolt ons and similar tunes...could go either way,but give the ss the edge because of weight, this is from a roll. from a dig,if he launches, the ss will be playing catch up and to keep up,you will need to be heavily modded.imo

When I was completely stock I raced a 2010 sti from a 35 roll. He was modded with some bolt ons including exhaust and cai. He beat me but not insanely bad. He raced a friend of mine from about the same, in his bolt on modded ms3, and they were dead even. When I got the lnf upgrade I raced the same ms3 that raced the sti and beat him several times. (He still had the same mods) Since the upgrade I have not raced a Sti but have some idea what would happen due to the comparison. I have raced a Evo 9 MR with some mods and stayed right on his rear qp. From a roll of coarse. From a dig you better be a damn good driver or have a seriously fast ass SS. AWD is no joke from the line when someone knows how to use it.

EXACTLY!!! wrx/sti are good cars, but modding them to get true hp to the ground is hell lol. the awd system takes alot out of them. not saying i have the fastest ss on the board, but mine is pretty quick, i'm a pretty good driver and i think mod vs mod from a dig would be hell to catch him lol.

WRX 2.0 liter only

STi 2.5 liter you might get them from a roll, but never-read me, never from a dig, not on the street. AWD>FWD from a dig

Modded STi I agree.
Where am I coming from on this subject? I've owned and improved a 2004 STi since June 2003(hundreds of suspension improvements). Drive lapping sessions frequently in the STi, have also autocrossed the STi frequently. Now since the wifey bought 2010 HHR SS auto, I have a good feel for both vehicles. Plan to at least autocross for fun in the HHR SS. Check my journal for pictures of both.

Also have years of driving experience with the chicklet company, so speak from the drivers seat on this subject.

i am lol... a bone stock sti will jump out on me no doubt, but by third gear,i'm going past him with NO problem. sti with bolt on's and no tune,i pass by 4th. done it many times, well atleast 5 different times with five different sti's. the driver mod does play a big factor. only came across one sti that i couldn't do ANYTHING with lol. found out later he high 11's low 12's in the 1/4. bone stock, especially the older sti's,are not putting out much HP.probably about as much as a 5 speed ss in stock form(245ish to the ground). also the auto ss and 5 speed ss are two completely different animals...i own an auto and a 5speed(well wife have the auto). also, many sti owners, atleast here in the houston area, build them for straight line performance and very little suspension work.

Coincedentally, I came up to one just yesterday while on a return trip from Pottstown PA. on Rt 100. Beautiful machine. Metallic silver. Exhaust sounded powerful.

My black SS is a 5 speed with LSD and has the GMPP turbo upgrade.

Rt 100 is an expressway type road with periodic traffic lights. We happened to be in traffic together, going it easy and there seemed to be a mutual respect when I made eye contact with the driver. We were coming up on a red traffic light in the distance and I was in the opposing lane. (me in the left lane, he on the right) I tried to position myself to be next to him at the light, but upon slowing down for it, an idiot in a metallic grey Hyundai Sonata came over from the right lane while we were slowing down and literally cut me off to get in front of me in order to position himself next to the Bubaru. The driver was a young guy in a sideways baseball cap seemingly with something to prove. I wasn't into road raging, so I immediately swung into the right lane behind the "Bube", because I figured that he was going to take off pretty quick and I didn't want to get stuck behind the Hyundai. The idiot in the Hyundai was in the left lane next to the WRX. I could see him eyeing up the WRX driver.

The light changed and the WRX took off either to smoke the Hyundai or perhaps trying to lose me, because it was obvious that he got on it very hard. Not sure if he was trying to race the Hyundai or lose me, but the latter wasn't going to happen. I got on it pretty hard, pedal to the metal in each gear, fast shifting, but I didn't use the no lift shift program nor the competitive mode. Still, although in single file, we ended up staying right together and I lost no ground. The idiot in the Hyundai, while trying to taunt the WRX was put to a humiliating shame. He quickly vanished in my rear view. I don't know why someone in a vehicle like that would even try to come up against a WRX or even an HHR SS for that matter.

We lost the Hyundai, but the guy actually gave me the high sign at the next light before the highway merged into a single lane.

good run silver. they will 60'ft ya,but they have to be really AND I MEAN REALLY modded to damage to a highly modded ss,imo.ususally you can hear the turbo screamin really loud if he had intake. if he had a full exhaust, 3inch turbo back no cats, that's good for 15-20hp on ANY turbo car. so with what i do know, that should put him around 260-265,plus his awd system is pig heavy. when i had my old hahn tune,i dynoed 262...that was tune only. no dp/exhaust,fmic,hardpipe kit. well now i'm pushing way more than that now. look at what u did and u just have a gm tune only....imagine if u had full exhaust??lol.
