Actually it was around 375 H.P., and yes it was expensive. In addition to all the engine work, it had the full blown SCCA road racing suspension, a one off Archer Brothers aero package. It basically was a clone of the ones they road raced, but with more horsepower than the class allowed. You know what they say about a fool and his money. It was not only wicked fast, but the downside was it was really stiff, and not a lot of fun to drive on long trips, plus it ate up high dollar clutches on a regular basis. It was fun to drive, and never a dull moment, when you pulled the trigger.
It was fast, but not as fast as some guys down in L.A.. They had a club, for Eagle Talons, that you had to run at least a ten second run at the strip, and drive it on the street to join. Some of the Talons ran in the nines, as I recall. A guy, back East,I think his name was Burcher[or something close] had a AWD Talon that consistently ran in the eights. I'd hate to have had his parts bill.
Sold the beast, to get my 1996 Impala SS, to calm things down a bit. I went way overboard on the Talon, not so much on the Impala or The HHR-SS.
The over 300 H.P. in My HHR-SS, is plenty, and hopefully not break parts, but we are going to tweak the Trifecta tune a little more in high gear, soon. "Moon"
P.S. Paint business is slow this time of year, so thats why I'm on here yapping my jaws, so much. [Can you say....boredum].

i mentioned him in a post in this thread. he runs 7's now ....with stock shifter!!! well shifting his gear in a stock gear pattern anyway. buscher(sp) has a shop and builds bad azz transmissions and motors, his stuff is top quality and HARDLY NEVER breaks.

True, Bushur Racing was IMO one of the pioneers on the east coast w/ AWD Talons. I remember being in the pits at Atco and Englishtown in the mid nineties and seeing his burgundy Talon running low 10's. He's still one of the guys that stuck to AWD in the Talon/Eclipse platform. I forget the othe rguy's name that ran an Eclipse also, but he changed his to RWD to run 7's.

Hey Guys,
Ultimately, there are hundreds of models of cars out there that can top the SS, but how many 5-door station wagons do you know of that can hang with purpose built sports cars for a lot more money! and lets not forget that when the SS ran at Nuremburg in 2008, it was only 3 seconds slower than a entry level Corvette, and 2-3 seconds faster than the Cobalt SC/SS! I will never beat a blown stang, or camaro SS, but our little rides will gain respect just by hanging with them, even if you are in their rear-view.

AWD entails about another 10-15% drivetrain loss compared to FWD, depending on the specifics of the transfer case and rear axle. This needs to be taken into account when internet racing based on flywheel HP ratings. Buschur racing, which is an old customer of mine, has a AWD dyno and builds 9 second EVO's that can easily be taken out to get groceries or drop the kids off at school.

I hate to admit this but my wife has a fully built and rotated STI. Even when the car was stock my Cobalt SS/SC with everything done you bolt on and porting still could not even keep up with STI with CBE and a Cobb Stage 2 shelf map. I ended up buying a SRT4 to build and after changing everything on it, I could bust thats ass and run low 7.45's at the track and take the kids to school on monday. This HHR we just bought has great to potential to keep up if you want to do a completely differnt turbo but IMO its Apples/toOranges compairison.
