Tire sizes

Ok, the stock oem tire size on HHR SS's is 225/45/18.
What i want to know is , will a 235/50/18 tire size work ?
Thanks in advance !!

Try not to exceed 26 inches over all dimeter or it will rub the front strut lower plate. The 235/50 is 27.25 according to THIS CALCULATOR <--- you can click this

I have 235/45 R17... I haven´t had issues with that. I would Install 235/50 R18... there´s is a big gap on the fender weel...

235/45/17 is only 25.33 inches..... regardless of how much gap there is to the fender well, the clearance problem is that lower strut plate.

Not sure honestly, but the general rule is that the wider you make the tire, the shorter you need to keep the sidewall to retain the factory overall diameter. What you would be doing is increasing the tire width and height, and probably upsetting the T/C and ABS.

For a quick reference of how tire sizing works:
Tread width/% of tread width that makes up sidewall height/rim size

225/45/18 = 101.25mm sidewall height = Roughly 659.7mm OD = 25.97in OD
235/50/18 = 117.50mm sidewall height = Roughly 692.2mm OD = 27.25in OD

Maybe a 245 x 40 x 18! A 235 x 50 x 18 will not work .....
