Top Speed Opinions

I want to start this off by saying please do not try to answer this by making a top speed run. That said, what are your opinions on top speed capability of the HHR SS? I have seen claims of 150mph, 150+mph, and 155mph. The new Cobalt claims 160mph. The fastest car I ever owned would do 160 mph, but it was limited by gearing, not horsepower. I ask this because the SS "feels" like a 135mph car and 155mph is a long way from that. Fastest I have gone is 118-120mph (indicated) on a friend's private road about 3 miles long, but not straight and not super smooth, so I could not stay on WOT the whole time. I have not read a road test that actually has a measured top speed report.

Another SS owner whom I trust just e-mailed me that he pegged the speedometer (140 mph +) and read 146 on his GPS, so that at least blows my 135 mph theory. I think it was a long straight road in Nevada.

my GPS showed 143 (on a closed road with a professional driver) and still had pedal left but ran out of safe road.

Top Speed Run?

So went over to my friend's private road this morning, figured out that we could get a better run if we hit the driveway entrance at a much higher speed, looked like about 132 mph this time, and this is about the best I can do here and stay safe. Reset the Garmin recorded max speed just before the run, as I have found it to be very accurate, although so is the SS speedo. This is what the max speed display read after the run, guess there was a black hole or small timewarp I did not notice!
