Trailer towing maximum (lb / kg): not recommended
I really like the SS but this is kind of a deal breaker for me. I have a hidden hitch and I regularly haul my dirt bikes around to go ridin. They need to come up with a tow rating for the SS
Considering what they changed I think the tranny might be the weak spot?

Just my opinion...but if you had to rebuild 4 transmissions on the same vehicle, I'd say the owner was a little weak....you obviously were over the vehicles limitations (overlooking the possibility of improper builds)..

Were you blowing out trannys on a Cobalt or an HHR? I would defiantly be going for the automatic as its my daily. My LT 2.4 hauls the trailer , 3 dirtbikes , + 3people , gear and coolers pretty nicely. Fuel eco. goes down the tubes though

I'm sure the SS is more than capable of towing light loads you speak of like your bikes & gear, chevy probably rates it this way since it's considered a "high performance vehicle", possibly the OEM tires don't have much of a load rating. If you are not concerned with a warranty infraction & really want an SS, I'd buy it & put a hitch on it!

HHR Not a Good DirtBike Hauler
Trust me as a longtime Dirt Biker, using several vehicles over the years, what you would be happiest with is a small quad cab p/u truck or a Trailblazer. Possibly one biker, his gear, and a very light single rail trailer with one bike is max that the HHR is sensibly capable of when properly equipped.

I would defiantly prefer a truck so I can go faster then 55 (legally )The trailer I use holds 3 bikes. I've dragged it all over the place. To Mojave and back thru the hills fully loaded thru sand dunes, over mountains etc. My HHR didn't really seem to care much, it handles the load quite nicely. I don't think I would put much more in it as that would be pushing the class 1 rating.
