Virgin Sacrifice...

I bought my SS in the spring of 08. It was one of the first delivered to Michigan. The dealership didn’t even know what was talking about initially when I asked about an HHR SS... I have driven the wheels off of it and although she’s had a couple issues it’s been a great ride for the last 90,000 miles. I wanted to start upgrading things left and right but since she’s my daily driver I didn’t want one change on it to have GM folks puss out the powertrain warranty. As I roll 100,000 the gloves are coming off and she will be a virgin no more... lol

I have had numerous bov springs replaced and the first thing I am doing is IC piping and a remote BOV. I have checked out the Hahn and the Dejon IC systems and leaning towards the Dejon with a Greddy bov. I know lots of people have already replaced them and I am arriving a little late to the party, but I would like to know anyone's experience's with their IC piping revisions (Good/Bad). She’s still going to be cracking 100 miles a day so I want to put some bullet proof goodies under the hood.

Thanks – Rob

if you want a vta bov then you will definitely have to tune for it and most end up doing a maf relocate to the lower charge pipe. this helps keep the fuel trims in line otherwise there will be spikes when the maf sees the air release. our stock system recirculates back into the intake so there are no issues. as far as the piping the dejon is the only one that is available with a flange....not that you can't have the greddy flange welded onto your piping yourself. treadstone has piping with a flange for a turbosmart bov....and zzp has a flange for their zzp tial style bov which fits the tial bov as well.

you will have to get a tune to see anything out of your mods so with the kind of mileage you have just be careful. you WILL need a clutch very soon. i would suggest making sure you have good bosch or ngk plugs and do a complete seafoam....plugs after seafoam and oil change.

The only thing that wants me to replace the stock bypass is that I am on my 5th because it keeps sticking open then there isn’t any pressure at all until I turn it off. It's a pain. If it was a 6 speed I wouldn’t have an issue. When I am doing 80 on the freeway your hover right around -2 / +2 lbs of boost so it's fluttering and wearing out. I guess could slow down, but it's unlikely... lol.

I haven’t had too many clutch symptoms as of yet because I drive a ton of highway miles, but I am starting to look at a clutch and flywheel combo, any recommendations?

Why not swap on a Forge BPV? ZZP charge pipes fit quite well on my HHR SS, and if you're set on going external BOV they have the MAF relocate option.

I have dejon hot pipe with greddy type s and love it. You can run without a tune but it does f up the Fuel trims so a tune would help big time. If I was you relocate the maf while your modding cause it helps with tunning for a bov.

Thats exactly what I thought...

The Forge Motorsports BPV will never wear out...no rubber parts or springs...it's a very nice unit for sure.

That Forge unit looks like it would do the trick, I wasnt aware they made a direct replacement.. sweet. I didnt really want to jack with the tune too much since its a DD a the car drives in temps ranging 100 to -20. (It already hates -20)

it is likely you have something that is causing the stuck open condition....i don't know what i could be though. people have had problems with the stock bpv but 5 in 100k is certainly not normal. i do a lot of highway driving at 80mph as well and i have 98500 miles on mine and have never had any bpv issues.

clutch wise i would say the ky clutch (kentucky clutch) is the best for the price. its about 400 shipped and will hold about 500ftlbs of tq. you can get a stock flywheel from zzp for 120 i think.....don't buy one from the dealer they cost about 700. the lightweight flywheels are kind of a pain for a dd. the exedy hypersingle is about 1100 with clutch and flywheel and is a great clutch but is a little pricey. if you go with a spec clutch do a stg2+ or stg3+........stay away from the non + ones. ive heard bad things about clutch masters units. competition clutch is eventually going to make one for the lnf using my car as the test mule but that won't be for a while still.

You buy the KY's directly?

ZZP also sells a clutch made from South Bend clutch components, however this KY sounds like great bang for your buck.

I will have too look into those thanks for the tip. I did call the dealer about stock clutch part prices.... LMAO. They might as well have told me the moon.
