What were they thinking - no armrest!

No armrest in the SS - what was GM thinking? I'll be taking delivery of my SS manual in about a week and I only learned after the fact that there are no armrest in the SS manual. I knew the driver seat had no armreat but I wrongly assumed the paasenger seat did. I even test drove a regular HHR using the passenger seat armrest as a test - worked fine. What am I supoose to do with my right arm? What do you do with yours?

Any aftermarket armrest bolt-ons or raised center consoles out there? I currently drive a PT GT and have tried driving without an armrest - to put it bluntly - it sucks! We need help big time.

Do you have a European Right Side Steering Wheel Model Seriously, though alot of New Manual SS Members have complained about this. I'm sure they will chime in.

Has anyone actually looked to see if the bung is there? If it is (under the fabric) it would be nothing to add the arm rest. The same seat is used for the auto and manual correct?

I thought that too...the author asked what to do with his/her left arm....STEER the car?

solman makes an excellent point in his inquiry...if the seat frame is different(more tooling costs, so I dont suspect that it is...but)

seriously...if it IS the same seat as a A/T equipped car(I would think so)the seat frame itself has a bracket welded on that contains the threaded hole for the arm rest, as well as the 45 degree pivot slot for the pivot pin to travel in for the arm rest's verticle-to-horizontal movement.

if the seats are different, you could either:

remove the seat cover and fabricate a arm rest mounting hole and guide pin channel plate

purchase an aftermarket center console with arm rest to fit between your seats.

or wait for someone else to come up with a suggestion.

I'd think the arm rests would interfere with your shifting...I have a A/T HHR, and the arm rests are sub-par anyway...they are more like an elbow rest...they are stubby/short, and dont provide much padding anyway, so sure, they are better than nothing, but I dont think it would take me very long to get used to NOT having one...especially if I was banging gears in a SS!

just feel through the fabric to see if you can in fact locate a hole, or even a hidden cover that protects the seat covers from unnecessary wear from an un-used hole beneath the material

If I'm banging gears I'm smart enough to put an armrest up, but I also do a lot of freeway travel - no banging gears there - just one limp left arm.

Left armrest would be a pain lifting it up out of the way everytime you get out.I have them in my astro van and it has never been used I use the door for my left arm.I also put on seat covers on my HHR and left them folded up and under the seat covers.

I completely agree with this issue. Now, as for being the driver I am mostly fine as I either keep my hands on the steering wheel or the right hand on the shifter, so I am fine with my SS as a driver. But I worry about passengers. I test drove an A/T and the arm rests seems like they were bent down like someone put all their weight on it.

I want an armrest but a better solution then the A/T has. I see that there are aftermarket consoles for the '06-'07 (reg.) HHRs that have cup holders and all. I would like to see something like that. Something that I could basically bolt into the floor instead of the seat.

I would like to know a good place for HHR SS aftermarket accessories. (PM me if you come across any)

My 2 cents...

Don`t no for sure about the HHR but my first car with a manual stated not to rest hand on shifter. The manual said it cause wear inside the transmission with the weight pushing down on the shifter since that car I just never do it.
