Correct, it can put stress on the shifting forks and cause them to wear prematurely.

I can understand the hand on the shifter problem with rear wheel drive cars where the shifter went right into the trans but I find it very hard to image how resting your hand on a shifter which is attached to a cable system several feet long would cause any "stress" on shifter forks.

Anyone care to back that up with a service bulletin or are we all just living in the past?

It isn't like I am laying on top of the shifter to even remotely do any damage to the vehicle. But I did not say that you should rest YOUR hand there.

But I appreciate your concern. But we are WAY off topic.

So what do you know about armrests?

It's not the weight of the hand, but the hand movement on the shifter that causes the wear. FWD or RWD, they all are cable or linkage operated.

Well, I went through the manual and could not find anything in there at all in regards to hands on the shifter and resting them there (or moving it while resting it).

I will heed everyones advice, but since driving 6-7 MT cars and not having an issue on any in regards to transmission (coupled with the fact that there is nothing mentioned in the owners manual) does not lend to me taking this very seriously. But that is MY issue.

Please do not try to convince me otherwise. I googled it and have seen other sites regarding this. I understand where you are coming from but it is ultimately my decision on how I drive my OWN car. You drive your's how you deem fit.

Can we please talk about the arm rest and lack there of in the MT HHR SS.

I was not trying to divert this conversation based on my driving technique, regardless on how inappropriate you find it.

Please, thank you to everyone and their concern, I mean that. But can we get back to the armrest issue?

Perhaps continue the topic of the hand resting on the shifter in another thread (so we do not hi-jack this thread any longer).

Thank you.

You mean right arm, yes? The left arm sits on the door's built in rest.

Perhaps you could buy seats from a new but wrecked HHR LS?

Well your first option is to find out if the bung is indeed inplace since it is the same seat as the auto. If it is, (I'm betting it is) then purchase a arm rest from GM and install or have it installed.

Unless you want to have aftermarket or custom seats installed, I see no other option.

But, it's your car.................

Here is one of my previous posts...

I am not interested in the arm rests that the A/T has...

What does everyone else think?
