First of all... to the site, fellow Ohioan! Secondly, I agree that the factory armrests suck! A floor console that has a storage compartment with a lid that doubles as an armrest is what's needed. Trouble is, there isn't much room between the seats, and the console must have provisions for the handbrake. I'm sure there is something out there that can be made to work...but finding the right one is the challenge!

jeffs396,
I couldn't agree with you any more. There is a space issue which might be part of why there are none in there. but still there should be something that could connect to the floor in the back and could tilt out of the way once installed. I know that they have this available for other cars...

New Waterford? Barely in Ohio but in it none the less...

Perhaps you could buy seats from a new but wrecked HHR LS?
Of course I meant my right arm. Posted the message this morning before the coffee kicked in - sorry. As to a wrecked LS, do that have seats that match an SS? My curent PT GT is an auto with autostick (which sucks compared to a manual) and I have no problem shifting with both armrests down.

Having just received my stick SS, I have decided that an armrest on the drivers seat would be in the way of your elbow, even if folded up. However, I rented an auto HHR for a few weeks, and without passengers in the car, I found the passenger seat armrest a pretty comfortable place to rest my arm when on the road, so that is what I want to investigate: whether the stick pass seat has the proper tab or bung to attach the stock armrest to. If so, that would be a relatively easy mod, I think.

The problem with making an armrest to fit over the console would be the restriction of the cup holders and e-brake. However, there is potential if any one out there wants to think something up and produce it.

My fiance's biggest complaint with her new HHR was that the armrests were always in the way with the space between the seats. She thought they made the front seats feel cramped.

She hated the fact that the emergency brake was tucked under the armrests and more than anything, she had to always raise and lower the armrest to conveniently get to the drinks in the cupholders.

After finding a really nice looking leather set of sport seatcovers to match her HHR, she told me to remove the armrest completely...

I thought she was nuts and would beg me to add them back on within a day or two... but she actually loves the feel of the front seats without the armrests in her HHR... So much easier to reach the emergency brake and cup holders. Even makes it feel more roomy in the front seats.

Believe it or not... I have to agree with her... without the armrests, it seems to feel a bit more like a sports car seating instead of the luxury car armrest feel.

I'm sure everyone has a preference but the feel of the frontseats without the armrests is an amazing difference. I'm now considering trying mine with out them.

Here's a picture of her new seat covers without the armrests.

Now, don't shoot the messenger.....

Just today I was told an arm rest WAS NOT INCLUDED because it does not "fit" the image Chevrolet Performance Group is attempting to obtain for the HHR SS......sport car

Just picked up my SS yesterday. Still miss the armrest. Going to test using the "folded down" passenger seat as an armrest today. I do a lot of highway miles so this is important to me. I own a mobile service business and this is going to be my work truck.
