Who is getting the roof rack on their SS?
I would love the functionality of one when say, going on a camping trip but other than that,
I think it detracts from the looks since the SS is a "performance car" after all.
And who would put a roof rack on a perfomance car?
You guys who want a campingmobile first...
you might as well make it go fast and get the SS with the rack eh?.
Although it is not a bad-looking rack as luggage racks go imho...
tacks on an additional $150 to the msrp and who knows what do they add in weight?
x-bars... more weight and expense. these are over $350 for either chrome or pearl nickel. Pearl nickel?
Who's getting it / not getting it, and why do you like it / not like it?
i mean how are you going to set a record at the 'Ring with a luggage rack on the car?

As soon as Im ready to order mine I'll leave off the roof rack. When I camp, I pack light. I did a week long mountain biking trip with my sister and we only had the space in my Cavalier... I dunno... if I wasn't getting the SS I would probably go for the roof racks.

To rack or not to rack, that is the question
I think roof racks are a horrible thing to do to an HHR, especially an SS but if you want to do the "keystone cop" thing on the running boards, you need the roof racks to hold on to, especially on the panel (no rear door handles)

I bought my SS with the roof rack. The main purpose is for cross country skis. I don't think they look too bad, but I'm a little biased. If I have a chance, I'll take some pictures.
Also, there are pictures of a non SS with a box on top somewhere on this site. That HHR, with the box, looks really good.

umm, there are no running boards on the HHR SS. Ground effects below the doors, yes, running boards as in the other HHR models, N/A.

well, actually, nothing can really look bad (let alone horrible) on an HHR; the roof racks look okay. I was more going for humour with the Keystone Cop thing, that just doesn't work without the running boards.

For a performance car the SS looks better without the rack but if it is the only car as it will be for many, and camping or traveling require that over head storage unit, then I would have said OK to the rack since it really doesn't look bad.

the HHR was designed as a retro-cool utility vehicle. For me the SS's coolness factor kind of outweighs the utility of the rack.
Pearl Nickel or no Pearl Nickel...
Besides, when the GF and I go camping we take her Grand Cherokee anyway.
Jeeps are great for motor trips b/c they are an extremely comfy driver
and very capable once u get there esp offroad.
But the V8's fuel costs kind of take the fun out of it so camping is the only reason Id put the rack on the SS.
In the end it'll be no rack for me when I go to order hopefullly in April
