Try posting a fresh thread about the surging, and mention the tach jumping as well - and the torque converter replacement. Someone may have sone ideas for you. It isn't anything I have seen before.

the solenoids fixed the p0014, t/c and hard shifting on a 2006 hhr lt 2.4l. FYI those part numbers have been superceeded. It will tell you the new number on gmparts.com. dealers carry them, used in hhr, terrain, equinoix and several others.

Here are the last "new" part numbers we have on record here along with the originals (posted on previous page):

The GM part numbers are as follows for the camshaft position actuator solenoids:

-------- Original-----Updated a month or two ago
Exhaust 12628348 = 12646784
Intake 12628347 = 12646783

Were yours different than the bolded ones above?

Are the part numbers the same for an '08 ,2.4, and is there a thread showing how to replace the sensor and not the acuator? While in in there I will replace both acuators but don't have info on sensor?
thanks

yes, the part numbers are the same. But check as noted in a previous posting above, for an updated part number from the ones listed.

No idea about a 'sensor'.

Found out the numbers are current and good for my application. The cam position sensor is mounted in the head just like the actuators but on the front side, it keep the ecm informed as to the position of the cams. Less than 50.00 at dealership.
Thanks!

Good stuff - thanks.

Are you getting a code? If so, what is it? Applying the correct parts for a specific code will likely save you some $'s.

P00013, came up on scan tool as "camshaft position sensor".

The camshaft position sensor is on the back side of the head, rather tricky to get to but not bad and I replaced it as well as the intake and exhaust actuators just for good measure. Not explensive repair but worth it in my opinion...while I was in there. The numbers for the intake and exhaust actuators were correct BTW.
Part number for camshaft position sensor was 12577245.

Can't tell which one was at fault since I replace all three items, but it is done.

All is ok now after clearing the cel.
Total repair time about 45 minutes, cost 110.00.
Thanks

Glad it all worked out for you.

Cheers

So for the second time ever, I had the problem come up. I already knew what was wrong, on the sad side, it was late on a Saturday and there are no auto zones near me at all. I had to wait until monday to snatch the 12646783 and 12646784 from my Dealership's parts department (ironically the same dealership that charged me $85 for the original problem and told me nothing was wrong with my car, I got the original fixed at another dealership).

After I got the parts, probably took 25 minutes tops, I noticed the 12646783 one was the "newer" looking of the bolts, so I decided to just replace the 12646784 instead, and it worked! I've put more than 200 miles on my car since yesterday morning and no issues!

I should also note it was a little tricky getting the black clip loose, couldn't see it so i had to remove it to unclick the wire harness

thanks to the geniuses who shared this awesome information with us.
