I bought both solenoids at a local dealer for $100. Now my question is how do I know which solenoid is which? I just want to make sure I don't cross up the exhaust and intake solenoids.

You got a problem there, unless they came in a box with the part numbers on them, or if the connections are unique to each one (and I don't have my old ones with me to check).

The tops should be different colours? Just match them to the ones that come out. The new ones I put in had the black top for the exhaust side, and the other one isn't. :) See the pictures at the start of this thread.

I was able to get it all squared away yesterday. The worst part was trying to remove the massive airbox on the SS. I rounded out one of the mounting bolts. I HATE TORX HEADS!! Replaced it with a hex head bolt with the same pattern with no problem. Erased the codes and it seems to be running fine. I've only put about 20 miles on it but I noticed my normal power is back now that the CEL is gone. Thanks!

Great original post by Whopper. Replaced both solenoids on two different HHRs over a year ago; no repeat of the problems to date. I do seem to think that oil cleanliness has something to do with this issue. Would suggest changing the oil just prior to changing the solenoids; then changing it again on a short interval after solenoid replacement. Again, great post.

Thanks for the post..

I was getting a P0010 and P0011 codes on my wife's g6 after reading the thread I replaced the "Intake 12628347 = 12646783 = 12655420". The local dealer didn't have it, so I had to get it from a 3rd party shop. The part I got ended up was a Dorman 917-215. After replacing the part I am still getting the P0010 but not the P0011 code.

Would I need to replace something else? When i first got the codes I replaced the camshaft position sensor, based on the recommendation of the auto zone guy, but of course the cel is still on and the vehicle jerks when switching gears..

Let me get this straight: you replaced one of the solenoids (the intake one) and the P0011 went away but the P0010 remains?

I had a quick look at the Dorman site - and I do not see where they list their 917-215 part as compatible with whatever engine you have in the G6. You may have the wrong part.

ps: you don't provide any info at all on what engine you have - I can't second guess man. This is an HHR site btw - not Pontiac.

Its been 4 years since I replaced mine everything working great, thanks to Whopper my HERO, had it scaned twice the mech. could not even guess then I this on site. I doubt I could live without this site, I have changed several things before it was needed as so many people were having them go out so figured do it before it was needed. YIPPEE

Sorry about that.. I was reading the g6 forums and they linked to this site, which then led me to this thread..

My g6 is a 2007 with a 2.4L v4 with 140k miles.

EDIT: According to the g6 forum 12628347 is the part i need to fix mine.. As noted this part is old and had been replaced by 12646783 & 12655420..

Assuming it is the right part needed, did you disconnect the battery's neg post for a while to reset the CEL code?

(I gather v4 is a typo?)
