GPS installation
Here are some photos with captions. I am too lazy to hook up things each time I use them, so I prefer to permantly install them. But I also live in NYC, so it has to be stealth. For power, I wired an auxillary cigarette lighter to the fuse box. Then, I ran the power harness from the storage bin to the lighter, which is at the front of the center console under the dashboard. It works out good, because the speaker is part of the power cord and you can hear it well from this location.

He is a little captain I got in the fishing village Freeport Long Island. He is a right leg amputee like me. I have had him in on the dashboard of all of my cars, sort of like the way some people put the little Saint figures.

My unit, Garlin Streetpilot 3610, uses a memory card, so to update it I have to remove it. The plug is snaked up and plugs into the unit. The unit is held in place by the round base fitting perfectly in the 1/4 inch deep hole, then secured with the extra strength velcro behind it. It removes easily. Pulling out the wire would be a pain, so if I intended on using it on another car, I would just buy an extra power cable. But now that I have the HHR, we use it on weekends as our family car so I have no reason to transfer it to my wifes Saturn (cant drive that car anymore-feels crappy compared to my ride).
But it fits very secure. The lid closes perfectly. And to further conceal it, I keep a log book in the compartment to keep records of gas, oil changes, repairs, etc. If I put it in front of the GPS, then even if someone opens the compartment, they would not notice it.
