I got the new switch in, and the 2 new wires on the existing plug installed. I ran out of daylite before I could run the wires down behind the radio to the BCM though. So I will post back with the results very soon....Regards

Well this is one mod that didn't work for my application. I double, triple, and quadruple checked all connections to the BCM, ground, and switch plug and can't get it to work. The dial that controls the amount of light to the dash works, but when I move it over to the "click" farthest right position, nothing turns on....
The first time I tried it, my car wouldn't even start...I thought "oh ****" I really messed something up now.....But as soon as I disconnected the tap going to the BCM @ A10 location it started right back up. I think it may have someting to do with my BCM, because when I did my foglight install and tried to have the BCM programmed, 2 dealerships claimed mine couldn't be reprogrammed. I don't know if it's because I bought a "strippo" L/S model (not even 1 option) and maybe they lock the BCM so you can add factory stuff without a hassle...who knows.....I'm gonna go fetch my service manual and see if I can figure out what's up......Regards

I was all set to go to my dealer this morning, equipped with my parts list. Now, I guess I will wait for another success story, also.
I already had one problem several months ago. I wired some stuff-map light, GPS, etc to the BCM by just pushing the wires into the terminal, and never got around to completing the job. Some time later, my 'Airbag Warning' light came on. The dealer spent hours removing panals, seat, etc before noticing that a fuse had blown where I shoved one of the wires in. Since I had altered the wiring, I was responsible for the bill-several hundred dollars for a 15 cent fuse.
And I am still having problems with my stereo-both alternator noise (I have to try new/another ground) and the battery going dead when I leave the faceplate on with the engine off.
So now I am very careful about electrical mods I make.

Well, this is an interesting turn of events. My switch turned on the dome lights immediately and has no problems since. I'll have to look at the service manual wiring diagram again, but there seems to be no logical reason for the mod to have not worked, much less affect starting. That circuit on the BCM is only for grounding the dome lights to turn them on.
Here's a test: if you can pull the pin (with the factory wire attached) out of the BCM connector and connect it directly to ground it should turn the dome lights on.

Fastsuv; you are right Ter.B&C on switch are for I/P dimmer,Ter. A&E are for dome light. When the switch is closed it grounds A10 at BCM to turn on dome light. So Like you I can not see why it won't work!
RUDEINC; I have a base LS build date 07/04/05 and I added OEM fogs and BCM was not a prob. to have the fogs turned on. As what I see there is only one part # for the BCM for all HHR's LS,1LT,2LT and works in other GM cars

Update:...........I went to work today and gave the electronic repair guys at work a shopping list. I figured that I was going to approach this again like it was the first time I tried. I ordered 2 extra terminals "just in case" when I ordered the switch, so I was ok there. The rest of the needed materials came from work....just like in the 1st post:
2ft. 18 gauge red wire
2ft. 18 gauge black wire
1 new unit of solder
1 new ring terminal
1 new wire tap
6" of heat shrink
1st..... Made up the ends that go into the switch plug making sure to solder the 18 gauge wire to the Delphi terminals and then cover with heat shrink. Install the 2 wires at locations A&E in the plug as shown in the how to. Re-connect plug to the new dimmer switch.
2nd ....Run the wires down to the BCM.
3rd......Connect red wire with a new tap splice to A10 on BCM (grey wire) just like shown in the how to picture.
4th......Connect black wire to a ground like shown in the how to picture.
5th.....Try switch.....and........NOTHING!!!!!......F*%K ME!!!!!! I scream....
6th.....After regaining my composure, I recheck connections and decide to try moving the ground to another spot.....
7th.....Try switch.....and.....SUCCESS........FINALLY!!!!! It works great now...lol....
A huge THANKS to fastsuv and oneton for double checking wiring and giving me some diagonostic tests as well.....Regards...RUDEINC...aka.... Mark
