What did the power steering motor cost? I assume you installed it because it wasn't covered by warranty. Good write up, thx

Yeah it wasn't covered under the warranty and they haven't been included in the recall of the Cobalt and Malibu.

It was $102ish plus $40 core charge so $142 total but naturally you get the 40 back when you bring your old one in.

Again, great info. Glad to hear it won't break the bank. I wonder how much the dealer would charge for labor to replace.

Thanks

Great write up and instructions! BTW, I've seen people complain about a dealers charging around $800 for this repair. Shame on GM for not recalling this part!

I'll be ordering the part an doing the repair this weekend.

I had this isuue about a year ago and I ordered the motor, but was unable to pick it up before it was sent away. My steering began working again and has not faulted for so long I had forgot all about it.

I went to pick my car up from the body shop (got rearended in reno a few weeks ago, that makes twice in our HHR) and they told me the power steering stopped working.

I ordered one from the Chevy dealer in Reno and on my O'Reilly account I'm getting it for around $87.00. He didn't mention a core though which I thought was weird. Anyway I'll probably be installing it this weekend and this write up will sure help, thanks.

Well that was a pretty easy replacement. I just did it in about an hour in 20degree weather.

Only problem is.....It still doesnt work.

Is there a need to reset a code or anything?

The part numbers were different on my new motor, but the dealer said it was updated or superceded.

Here are pics of the difference, its pretty much just the conical whatever it is at the base of the shaft, and the part numbers which I called to verify was correct with my vin#.

The part number for the one I just bought is 19257875, not the 2099????? number the OP shows in his pics.

The pic looks like the sizes are different, but in reality they are the same and I did install the O-ring and lube the shaft up good before I put it in.

As I was typing I realized that conical piece may still be on the car, but the new one slid right in like butter so I dont know.

Any Ideas would be awesome,
thanks

I just pulled the motor again and it's all clear inside the housing where it mounts. Does anyone know what voltage should be coming out of the j t e k t module on the side of the housing when the wheel is turned.
