Wanna Cover that Hole in Your Rear? Hitch Hole that is!

Wanna make a cheap License Plate Hitch Cover for your 1.25-inch hitch? I’ve only seen 2-inch License Plate Hitch covers and they are $50! Mine only cost $12.00! It will make a statement and hide some of the hitch assembly as well. I did this to a regular HHR-you may have to slightly adjust how this will fit if you have an SS.

Bought a universal license plate bracket (Pep Boys) & 2 12 inch by 1.25 inch mending plates (Ace Hardware). Drill a ˝ inch hole in the 3rd hole of each bracket. To bend them 90 degrees without going crazy I just slid one into the hitch and mounted the hitch pin. I then used my foot (yea I’m a wimp-so what) to bend the mending plate almost 90 degrees. A slight tapping with a 5-pound sledge did the rest. Take the plate out and do the same with the other one-facing the opposite way of course. I had some old .25-inch nuts and bolts lying around and mounted the universal frame. Be sure to mount the mending plates to the lower holes of the universal license plate frame-so it sits high off the ground and nicely under the bumper. Then bolted the 2 brackets together towards the end for stability. Mount your favorite Picture Plate and your good to go. (I also took a plate and made one that says ChevyHHR.Net)

I'll stick with my $19 ball milled billet Chevy one.... Plus as many times as it's hit the ground on hill approaches and such, that tag would have already been ripped off.

The bottom only sticks below the actual hitch hole about an inch. I just went to Home Depot yesterday and loaded 15 bags of Scotts Black Ceder Mulch and had no issue going up or down out of my driveway. As you can see from the above pics my driveway was used by NASA to test the Mars Robot on... Then again my HHR is Stock Hight & only 13,500 miles old. (1 year old this August)

ChevyMgr, if you need one with your emblem from here, I can do it with sublimation, any basic size you want. Had a photography company and kept some of the equipment, including the sub inks and presses.
