buying soon!

Hello all. I am looking at buying a 2007 HHR LT tomorrow night, and I wanted to see what you all thought. During the test drive I noticed the roof was stained around the sunroof. I know that is usually a sign the drains are plugged up.

I noticed the wind deflector was broken, and thanks to this wonderful forum, I know that is a simple fix.

I noticed that the power steering while at highway speeds seemed a bit heavy and sluggish, but at low speeds it seemed nice and smooth. Is this normal?

I have big plans for this vehicle and look forward to contributing my own fixes for these issues.

to the forum James76, and good luck with your purchase!

Headliner stains are usually a sigh on blocked sunroof drains so plan on attending to that first thing, heavy/sluggish steering at speed may be due to low tire pressures, so check them too.

Make sure you run a CarFax or something like it, that way you can avoid an unpleasant surprise.

I would try and find another to just take a test drive in to make sure there isn't any problem with the steering. Hard to say what's normal if you've only driven one.

Being an 07, I'd have the brakes looked at along with checking the area on the passenger side foot well for any signs if leaks from the butyle patch. It's common and an easy fix. But if left can shorten the life of the blower motor from water.

I would not consider a broken deflector an easy fix maybe you can get some money off for the fix

Well, a little more about me, and the vehicle I am lookin at. I work at Ziebart, as an accessory/electronics installer. Hence sunroof issues aren't much of a challenge to me.

I have spent a few days reading most of the common problems and was able to get the price down from 12997 to 11997 based on all the issues I found. The car fax showed no accidents reported, but there are signs the rear bumper was repainted (poorly). Maybe they had a dog that scratched it up while climbing in? Who knows. Anyways the HHR is an 07 with 53,000 miles and is a fully loaded LT with black leather interior. I had an idea to recover the stained head liner with black suede since its the only gray in the car.

The car is orange metallic and has a woody wagoon kit installed. I am going to sign papers tomorrow night and I will post pics. Thanks for the replies! Can't wait to get my woody home!
