I have been looking at an HHR for midwestern sales for a work car. 25,000-30,000 miles a year. Some weeks are easily 1,200 miles.

I like the car and the price but the only thing I didn't like is the "B" pillar riding my shoulder as I am 6'4" tall.

I saw the thread with the high mileage cars and was impressed. Suggestions? I would be buying new under the GM Employee discount (father-in-law) and would not load up the car with options as I like simple cars. Red? 5-speed?

to the site I know of an HHR owner that is a little taller than you and he loves his HHR.

Welcome and Greetings! I think you'll like an HHR, they are so useful both for business and personal use. My only suggestion is to maybe rent one from Enterprise for a few days to a week and live with it. Taller folks sometimes have complaints on visibility at traffic lights and the like. I'm 5'11" and a few tenths and there are times that I have to scrunch down to see under the windshield header, but that's a very minor concern, I love both of mine....they're a hoot to drive.

I am used to small Japanese cars and angling the seats way back. It is just the "B" pillar riding on my shoulder. The HHR has a ton more headroom than that new Camaro. Getting in and out of that car was a total joke.

You must have sat in one without a sunroof, that alone will steal a couple inches of headroom, just a warning.

A Guy bought a 2006 in 05 and used it for his courier business, one of his last posts said he had over 120K miles in nov or dec of 2006.

Hello and welcome. I am 6'2" and if I have my seat all the way down and back it doesn't get me, plus a little seat lean makes the ladies look and think you are cool.

I totalled my last vehicle (Focus wagon) that I use for my business - up to 3,000 miles a month. Got to rent a HHR from Enterprise while the insurance company did their thing. It was a 1LT with the 2.2. At first, I hated the very wide A pillars. I did like the way it drove though. Decent get-up-and-go, good gas mileage, and a very long distance to empty - over 450 miles easily. (I could only get 350 with my Focus at the most...) The vehicle was comfortable, the HVAC controls were nice.

Since there wasn't much available in the small wagon catagory in my 'slighty used' price range, I decided to get one. I like luxury, speed and gizmos, so I went for a 2LT. It has the 2.4 motor, a moonroof, seat heaters, leather, steering wheel audio controls, and a firmer suspension that the rental didn't have. One thing about the rental that I didn't like was a sort of 'dark' feeling on the inside - like you're sitting in a tall-sided boat. Having the solid panel on the moonroof open to let in sunlight really helps with that.

I will also add that the handling suspension that the 2LT has is noticeably better that the standard setup - firmer, but not harsh.
