New owner with questions.

Okay, I never thought I would own a HHR but I saw the SS and fell in love. I am a Chevy guy all the way and was about to buy a Dodge Caliber SRT-4 so I'm glad Chevy built the SS. My first question is this, I like the GM stage 1 kit a lot, but it seems other companies offer a tune that nets the same power with only a tune so why does the GM kit change the MAF sensors? I like the stock performance but like all of us, I want more! So, I read on the Super Chips site that their tuner can offer a great HP gain on a stock HHR SS but no parts are changed, I just want a tune for more boost if I can but I wonder why GM changed sensors? I plan to do a cat back exhaust and CAI in the future but that's it for a while, s is the GM kit my best ben now, or will a tune do the same for less? I'm new to computer controlled cars, I have built a couple 500 horsepower third gen F-bodies with old school 383's. Any info will be greatly appreciated.

I do have the super chip, and have run it along with all the update they have come up with along the way. There is no need to do anything other then plug the thing in, follow on screen promts and drive. Power increase is amazing! I hear on the site that the Trifecta is even better. You can find a bunch of info here on the site about it.
Enjoy the SS... I love mine!

Welcome to the family..

most only used the gm tune to save the warranty. The sensor change is so they can deliver accurate information at higher boost levels. Lots of guy's have stuck a canned Trifecta tune on a stock car and never looked back. We affectionately call the aftermarket intakes hot air intake. There are a few who have managed to get cold air, Batman, Moon, but it is hard to beat the air the stock box finds. K&N makes a intake tube that worked well for me.

Welcome!

I have the trifecta budget tune...~24 lbs of boost for under $300 if you return the cable...

SSfan is right...I haven't looked back- I had superchips, and trifecta is definitely better...

Im planning on Trifecta myself. One thing I like about that is that you can turn it on/off with the Cruise or Competitive mode selection and not have to hook something back up to reflash it like the super chips one.

Ha ha...why would you turn it off. It's 300hp, 350 torque, 31mph. I hit the switch by accident once, thought it was broke just running on stg-1.
