So, what Socialist society would you use as a model.
Scandanavian countries seem to get it right for the most part, however, they are taxed beyond what they probably should be.
If we are only talking about the level of socialism being the only factor, then if you can find a country falls somewhere in taxes and social programs between Canada and Sweden, I would say that would be the ideal social democracy.

JoeSchmoe - my dear friend
not in my rules, "knocking on the brain", but Ponder my words.
Among you I have a unique experience of life in socialism and capitalism. And besides - in conditions of anarchy and lawlessness is a gangster. I can compare objectively. Not ideas and principles books. Real events and people.
I think. Earn my hands and my brains preferable. You risk, but you are free. So think not all (the people - the herd). Entrust their problems to the state - is unacceptable. That looks tempting. It should be understood - no one cares about you, only you and your parents. No and never. The state will solve your problems up until the state is favorable. So herder solve the problem of pigs. Gives them food, shelter and protection. But all the pigs come to slaughter. This is the price of care and pigs pay her against her will. What you will pay a socialist state?
I'm sorry if my words offended you

Same way you or I do. They work at.
So socialist countries don't have rich people getting richer?
Who has the right to tell someone how rich they can be? You?
Wouldn't you rather know how to be richer?
Every dime I ever earned came from a company owned by a rich person.

Canada is doing quite well. It's a good model, but not an ideal one.
Scandanavian countries seem to get it right for the most part, however, they are taxed beyond what they probably should be.

No... I can admit that there are better places to live than here... I am not a rabid nationalist....

Where would you live if not there?
In response to ChevyMgr's post....
I strongly agree. And I, like you, came from essentially the same background.
Oh and to keep to the topic of the thread....
Other than getting ticked off because we (the American people) can't seem to control ourselves, the price of gas doesn't aggravate me to much. We have 4 vehicles (one is up for sale) between the 2 of us. We probably spend less than $100/mo on gas. In fact, just now filled one of the cars with premium. Cost was somewhere around $38.....last filled that same vehicle, just after Thanksgiving.

Hmm, that's interesting you chart Canada as a Socialist party. I was not aware that Canada is. I don't remember ever seeing it on any list of Socialist countries. Is Canada really considered Socialist or is that you view of your country? I mean Canada does not have "Socialist" in it's official title AND neither is the government considered socialist....so, ??????

interesting discussion. in the new year.
should not be confused "socialist system" and "social projects operating in the capitalist state."
if you will - another example of wildlife.
Any animal - a pack of wolves or monkeys. Their lives in the woods is hard and hungry. They kill the enemy, famine and bad weather! They have fierce competition. But it is strong, hardy beasts! They produce their food through their own efforts. They are self-sufficient, happy, and give birth to healthy children! This is - of capitalism.
But at some point a person decides to help them. Snowy Winter - a man comfortable in the forest feeders. Disease - a person begins the forced vaccination. And so forth. Animals relax. Reduced immunity. Lost hunting skills. Muscles slacken. But the instincts are still strong and sharp teeth. This is - social projects.
But there can come a black time. Man takes full care of the animals. He builds a menagerie. No need to get food - bring a dish once a day. No need to improve the muscle - a cell is small, no place to run. No need to develop a sense of smell - the stench City scored all smells. The wolves can not hunt. Monkeys can not climb trees. Pitiful sight - a proud beast groveling for stinking dish of soup. He can not even die - for many years to come empty miserable existence. This - the socialist system.
As a function of the state? I am not a politician. Maybe my point of view - amateurish. But I'm sure - the most inveterate capitalism + a very small fraction of social projects for the most vulnerable people (disabled, elderly and orphans).
Do not feel sorry for yourself, fellow Americans. Do not relax. What does not kill you - makes you stronger. Like old times.
Will self-pity - become weaker fat nerd. Comes a young muscular punks. It eats you away with shoes. Well-fed Europe already has it. Very many social projects. Hot Arabs and tsigane enjoyed it. They kicked thick French and the Germans out of their cities. It is already in the United States.
$ 5 per gallon - horribly, but it's not a disaster. And no reason to abandon freedom for the benefit of unscrupulous politicians.
