2007 Toyota Avalon

Well, I finally got around to taking my HHR into the body shop... and I was faced with two rental car options... getting a Focus for free, or paying an extra $7.80 a day out-of-pocket for a brand new, 42-miles-on-the-odometer Avalon. Obviously, I chose the Avalon... because there was no way in hell I'd drive a Focus for 2-3 days. Here is my quick review...

I'll admit, I was one of those anti-Toyota people, just because I thought the vast majority of their products were highly over-rated based upon ignorance. This was the first Toyota I have ever driven, and I was extremely impressed from the moment I sat in the driver's seat. It is quite powerful for a car this size, and it's overall comfort and fit and finish is amazing. It really does feel like a Lexus, just misbadged at the factory. I've already put nearly a hundred miles on it and had to stop for gas twice. And I haven't even had it for 24 hours. I'm not dissing the HHR, but I will definitely be very sad to have to give this back in exchange for my HHR...

The Avalon has been a big problem for Toyota, there are many unhappy owners. see the link:

Not trying to offend but 100 miles and stop for gas twice, that would come to around 3-5 MPG by my estimate, WOW how fast were you going?

Well I wasn't sure last night just how low I'd be keeping it. So I didn't want to put too much in at one time and give it back with a full tank when they gave it to me on empty. First trip to the pump I put it to 1/4 and then depleted that pretty quickly, and second trip to the pump, I filled it to 1/2. I got a call today saying I wont be getting the HHR back until Monday, so now I can fill it all the way up without worry. The gauge on the info screen is reporting between 18 and 20 MPG, the same that my HHR gets with its 4 cyl vs. the Avalon's 268 hp V6...

Loved them both! Only kept the Corolla for a year when it was traded in on an Infiniti but had the Rav4 for 5yrs. Avalons are very nice cars.
