Cause you never know what may happen.

Couple of weeks ago I did a lot of maintenance on my wifes MPV. The end I did a tire rotation. When I do this I clean the backside of the wheels and check tire pressure with them off the car. Afterwords I checked the pressure on the HHR since the compressor was ready to go. All good but one tire, about 5 psi low.

Week goes by and I notice the same tire is low again. So I pull it off to have it fixed. As soon as I get it off the car, I find the problem. A nail right at the corner of the tread/sidewall. Not just a regular nail, a roofing nail. I had a new roof put on a month ago. At first I was just going to have the tire fixed. So I threw it in the back of the MPV and headed to Firestone. They say can't be fixed, has to be replaced. They quote me a price for a replacement. I throw it back in the van and head to Geralds (great local place) and they confirm. If it's within 1" of the sidewall, can not be fixed. So I throw it back in the van (amazing how much lighter it is when your are pissed ) and head home. I call the roofing company and tell them what happened. They send someone over and he see's the nail. Pulls it out and you hear the air rushing out (guess he wanted to make sure I didn't shove it in the hole). He makes some calles and finds out Firestone has one in stock (I already knew that ). So I follow him down there. They replace the tire on their dime. Cost for one Firestone Affinity? $183.56. So now I have one with a road hazzard warranty.

Old tire had 11502 miles.

Wow, that was nice of them to do that. Here in Tampa, they would just look at you and say something like prove it was ours.

Good thing I got the tire road hazard when I bought the HHR.

$183.56!! for one tire?? Is there gold mixed into the tire fabric somewhere. Sounds like about $100.00 too much considering the tires we have!

Unless you paid extra for it. It doesn't not come with the HHR. I read all through that Firestone warranty booklet. No road hazzard.

Yes I paid extra! I always have road side auto and road hazard for the tires.

I at times run over nails, not just once.

I've never paid over $95 for a replacement on those two crappy Affinitys I had to replace. Firestone can keep their tires for that much scratch.

Man.....it is really something how the price of a particular tire changes from one location to another in the US.

For example....todays local paper has an ad for a local Firestone chain. They post the price of the Firehawk 215x50x17" @ $119.00 plus all the add ons. And, I know people have indicated they were getting THEIR local pricing for around $175.

I thought when I bought a car with smaller wheels, the price of the tires would also be cheaper. I hadn't paid that much since I had to replace one on my '82 Firebird with raised white lettering (never bought them again)!

I, too, just had a new roof installed and the roofer hauled away the old shingles on a flatbed trailer you use to haul lawn mowers. That explains why I've had 8 flat tires in the 15 years I've lived here. I have a large magnet on a pole that I used to scan the driveway after they left each day. My neighbor came by to show me the nail he found in the street. What can I do when there's no enforcement of rules for hauling trash?
