Basic PP-ASEL here, never did instrument rating. Had a '67 Piper Cherokee 140 w/ RAM 160 STC for a while. There wasn't and still isn't anything that could match the feeling of flying on CAVU day which is what my trusty old Cherokee used to excel at. Did quite a few xc's though, usually crusing @ 6500 or 7500' depending on route. Always used flight following on my xc's.
But, I haven't flown in a while. Got a kid going to college in a year, but after he's graduated daddy's going to take refresher course and get back into it

Yep a very old PP. Commercial SEL Instrument. Air Taxi 135, CFI, AGI and a bunch of other stuff that I have not used in years. Aviation was my start in the working arena then I went to the Navy and got stuck on Submarines, dont get me wrong because I really enjoyed it, but I can only think of the opportunities I may have missed by not staying with Aviation, something I really loved .. Would do it now but the costs to get current and continue are beyond my ability at present..

Jwolfe99 I am in awe (and envy) of your ratings. Know what you mean, though, flying is major league expensive. I just can't light off the $100 bills left and right in good conscience when my child is about to start college.

I just wish I could afford to get back into the air again..

It was great, I started with a ride on a whim, and was hooked. Check around your area for a small airport they should know where you can try it. or go to ths Soaring Society of America's website http://www.ssa.org/sport/wheretofly.asp and get a check ride. 20-30 min. flight is about $50.00 or so. You won't regret it!
