And word that Ford is in final stages of dumping Mazda. Seems strange that all these companies drop extra ties yet GM considers Chrysler at this time. Tells me the new guys at Chrysler are really hurting too. Yet, as of yesterday, we all start to wonder if GM to be around 10 years from now, no less two.

If two slumping auto manufacturers merge, does that make them one ginormous slumping auto manufacturer?

All I can say is hubby went shopping for a 4x4 at GM last week and decided against it. But he really wanted and needs a new truck before winter so he went back again. They lowered the price between last week and this week by nearly $10,000. We pick up our new truck on Tuesday. So my HHR has a new cousin joining the family.

So while I've lost a few bucks on the market we saved a bundle on our vehicle purchase...lol.

Jeep.

I might add that I speculated on this merger about a year or so ago when it first came up in conversation, around the time of the UAW-GM strike. Another possibility comes to mind. Picture this:

2011 Chevy HHR SS, 2.0L Turbo Ecotec engine ... with the Caliber AWD system. Phase out the Caliber and integrate the tech into a MUCH cooler vehicle. That's what I'm talkin' about.

Don't hold your breath on this, though. My wife doubts it'll go through, even if it is for Jeep (in her words: "Why buy the whole candy store when all you want is a Hershey bar?").

Post GM and Chrysler

Caught the news about GM and Chrysler talking possible merger with the slumping market. Guess they need to do what they have to. IMO if they do, they need to keep the best selling vehicles form each others line.
