My wife and I are considering unloading our 2001 S-10 Crew Cab. It's been a very dependable ride, however at 82,000 miles, it's beginning to show it's age. Anyone familiar with the Chevy Trailblazer? Good or bad points? We are looking at a 2007 demo unit and wondered if anyone may have a bit of feedback. PM's are welcome!

The GMT 360 SUVs were probably the most advanced truck-based SUVs on the market until the new full-size GM SUVs came out this year. My parents have an Envoy and it's been a great car for them. I've used it to pull a heavy U-Haul the last few times I've moved and the Isuzu-designed Atlas inline-6 pulls flawlessly. Hydroformed frame is as stiff as a railroad track. Same frame they built the SSR on. No rattles.

Even though the Explorer has an independent rear suspension, I think the Trailblazer rides smoother and feels more controllable on the road.

Fuel economy could be better, but it's better than an Explorer with a V8 and it has more power than the V8 in the Explorer. The new Tahoe and Yukon get about the same fuel economy in a larger package, so that's why GMT 360 goes bye-bye after next year.

 

Crafty.....thanks for the heads up. We tried out both models of the Trailblazer. The ride was nice in the standard, but it was more room than we needed. The extended with 3 rows of seating....nope. Our kids are grown up and we just didn't need that much room. We tested an Equinox out. Nice little SUV with enough pep, and enough room. The rear seat actually slides backwards to increase the legroom. We don't go four wheeling, so an AWD would be just the ticket in bad weather. The pluses and minuses also included fuel economy, so we purchased a 2007 Chevrolet Equinox. It suits are needs without being foolish. And of course, I always have my HHR.

 

Thanks Firewatcher for purchasing GM again. I think (and hope) it helps pay my retirement.

 

The 'nox is a great car. If you're not towing much and you don't need as much room inside, it's a much better choice. My Dad's pension thanks you very much, too!

Get another HHR instead

 

Great choice on the Equinox. We very rarely work on them here in the shop they seem to be very reliable. Mostly we just see them for LOF's and such. So congrats and enjoy your new ride.
