Charger's Salute to the Military...
Or how I spent my Saturday afternoon/evening. Week 1 pre-season football, San Diego hosts Brett Favre and the Green Bay Packers. If you don't know I'm as much as an HHR fanatic as a NFL fanatic! Now you know (check the avatar).
Every year the first Charger's pre-season game is themed "A Salute to the Military". San Diego is home to MCRD San Diego, MCAS Miramar, Camp Pendleton, Naval Base on 32nd St. and pretty much every military branch resides here. Except maybe Air Force there up in Riverside but still Southern California.
So the Chargers dedicate this day to the military and it's large presence in Southern California. Me being a prior Jar Head enjoy it especially since I'm a season ticket holder/Charger fan. Plus they sacked Brett Favre a couple of times and Green Bay only scored three points! Yeah I know it's only preseason and it doesn't count. But it sure was fun watching Ol Brett getting thrown around like a rag doll!
Anyway now with the season right around the corner you'll probably see my post count go down. No fear, the season only last a couple of months
Here are a few pics I took on Saturday. It's hard to watch a game and take pics so most of the pics are warm ups and intros...Likewise it's hard to take pics during a how-to/install
Pregame warm ups
Pregame chant
Scoreboard, Salute to the Military on the Big Screen
Bolt Helmet

Oh I almost forgot! I didn't take a picture but during replays of the game, on the big screen, it says...Chevy HHR Replay! With the HHR picture GM uses during it's promos. It seems Chevy is sponsoring the Chargers Replay board and picked the HHR to be shown, at least during this game, prior to any replays being shown on the Big Screen. I'll be looking to take a picture next game vs. Seattle. The only problem is that my seats are on the opposite side of the Big Screen and pictures don't come out too good...

It is good to see the Chargers do that, I take my hat off to them. As many others I served at one time also, in the Army and did my time in Iraq the first time we went over.
But you know the chargers have to do that each year, because if it was not for all the military folks around there, they would have no fans.
Sorry NG, you know I had to be getting around to a jab at you.
But I really do take my hat off to the Chargers for that.

Anytime they salute the military, I'm very thankful. I'm a former military spouse, have worked for the Air Force for 17 years, and now have a son at the Air Force Academy. Except in times of war, many people forget what the military does for them. I see it every day, even as a civil servant. Just watch the History Channel's show "Tactical to Practical" to truly see how the military has changed our lives.
