Here is a picture of what the 2010 Impala was going to look like before our little down turn occurred. This is a concept picture No one knows if this would have been the final product for retail sale.

Update on platform used
Quote from Winding Road /NextAuto website:
When General Motors announced the imminent demise of Pontiac, rumors sprung up about the much-loved G8 sedan being rebadged as a Chevy and potentially used for different North American police forces. Now, GM has officially taken the wraps off of its 2011 Chevrolet Caprice Police Interceptor, but take special note -- it's not actually a G8 (read: Holden Commodore) -- instead, this car is a left-hand-drive iteration of the long-wheelbase Holden Caprice/Statesman.
I personally do not know anything about the platform used, but those Aussies do make good V8/RWD cars. It could be nice as the next USA Impala SS , depending on real world MPG.

That is, without a doubt, the ugliest car I've seen come out of GM since the Aztek. Keep the styling of the Statesman the way it is. Trying to make it look like a 300/Charger is trying to go back 5 years. Those cars are on the way out anyway.
