But NOT for the Hendrick organization. He'll be racing under his own company, JR Motorsports.

Sounds like he`s become a legend in his own mind...
A pre-announcement for a switch next year, hate to be one of his sponsors .

That leaves his step mother with 100% of a company that has no drivers. Smart move Teresa. Amazing how she can destroy a company her husband set up for his family. I had also read she was considering a "partnership" with another racing company and switching to Ford. Dale Sr. would turn in his grave. I hope Dale Jr. can work out something with RCR to get the number "3" and drive that like his Dad did.

I am no Nascar fan so it is good or bad for Nascar itself? Not good or bad for Dale, but Nascar itself

This is not a surprise. Dale Jr. and Teresa have never gotten along and the move was suspected anyway.

Not sure I like the idea of Dale Jr. using the number 3. That was the Intimidators number should remain unused IMHO.

How about a variant? A writer on NASCAR.com postulated a move for Junior which had him leave DEI for Joe Gibbs Racing, and Gibbs letting him run a black #03.

BTW, regarding sponsorship, where Junior goes, Budweiser follows. Their contract is with Junior personally, not with DEI. (Just like NAPA's contract was with Michael Waltrip, not with DEI. And you bet Michael's regrettin' that because for ever race he doesn't qualify for he has to pay NAPA $300,000 in lost advertising revenue. He's close to $3 million in hock to them so far this season ...)

It appears that "whatnot" is the word of the day

I've lost count of how many times Dale Jr. and his sister have said whatnot in the press conference.

Dale Jr. is leaving DEI, does not know who he will be driving for at this point.

They will only start a JR Motorsport Cup team as a last resort.

#8 was his grandfathers number so I think he will stay with that and preserve 3 for "The Man"

I was traveling from San Diego to San Francisco and was staying overnight at Moffat Field when I got word of his death....I was a rabid NASCAR fan before then.....not really so much any more...really do not like any of the new drivers at all..all clones..

In the press conference Dale said that DEI owns the number 8 and will likely keep that number.

He was asked if he ended up at RCR would he run the #3. The audio feed cut out at that point, and when it came back he said something along the lines that he was not comfortable with that, but it would be up to Childress (should Jr. end up there).

I used to follow NASCAR as well, but when Dale Sr. died I lost interest - my reason for watching/following it was gone. Most of the drivers I followed have now retired. I keep track of Montoya now though, as I am curious to see how he does in NASCAR vs when he was in F1.
