Delivery contractors ?

are there any delivery contractors , or any other contractors on here that have recieved a 1099 , and would share any tips on the best way to file? software types? do it yourself without software? hire someone? i have never done this before and i could use some advice. i started driving because my health won't allow me to keep climbing ladders , swinging hammers and paintbrushes. the base pay for my routes are lower $ than i have made in a long time. the routes pay very little , they are really not worth doing , before any expenses. i am hoping to file a loss , and not owe anything. that's the only way i could keep doing them.

Hey Cat, You might qualify for free tax prep on line from the IRS: http://www.irs.gov/efile/article/0,,id=118986,00.html

I use TaxAct online (https://www.taxactonline.com) and have used them for like 6 years--costs me about $17 for state and federal and I can eFile. They also have info from the past few years, so no need to re-input more then the latest new W2's, 1098 (school loans) and 1099's.

What's cool is they look for deductions for me based on info I input and I can see how much I get back (or owe ) as i fill it out.

Just have all your info handy and it is easy and fast!

Good luck!

thanks,

thanks for the replies. i am hoping to get a few more ,-,replies. i got something in the mail from turbo tax. i haven't opened it yet , i would think it is sample , and not a full version. i need to get antivirus software also , mine will run out in few days. i am also shopping for this. i saw a deal at office max-,i think,-, for around $50 for some tax software , with that purchase you also get a -free- antivirus. i would do that but i really don't know if either of the softwares are what i want or need.

On your antivirus software, i strongly recommend Avast software, it is free and just as good if not better than Norton, it even has the option to do a pre-boot scan, that will scan before your computer boots up so your operationg software does not get corrupted. www avast com

have you ever filed as selfemployed or as a business owner? i did 1 time very long ago and got really screwed. they even put a levy on my next job and tryed to take over half of my pay each week. i need to come up with enough deductions so that i will owe zero. i would think that would be alot , but i hope that it isn't. i am single , no children , so it all falls on me.

I would say Cat the plus side of these is you can fill it out and see what it comes up with, but you don't have to submit it. When I do mine, I don't hit 'send' until *I* am satisfied with it and the LAST thing i am asked to do is pay my $17. In other words, I can just leave it and file some other way if I wanted.

good luck.
