Jeff, I don't mean to get too personal but what were they, how bad and what are the leftovers?

I was considering using Chantix until I read up on it.
I'm still considering it as a last resort.

I turn into an ogre when I quit.
I had friends that usually love me throwing cigs at me saying "smoke you bastard" during past quit attempts.

If you have ANY temper issues it will be brought out in some way or other......if your a dreamer ,they will intensify, SYFY will want movie rights after you quit!
I only went 1 month on Chantix and had to stop before I ripped somebodies lungs out....patience level dropped dramatically....took almost a year off of them to regain something back to normal, though my sleep habits are terrible now...expext 10 lbs overnite....oh, as a positive note, don't smoke anymore.......

I've read, that after quitting smoking. Provided there is no progressive lung damage. After 10 years of smoke free, your lungs get back to like before you began smoking..

I don't know ? I read it.. & just saying....

Side effects of Chantix were bizarre vivid dreams (I kinda miss those) Wild mood swings, as if being bipolar wasn't enough. And the worst were all the thoughts of suicide. Scary really, looking back a year ago. Everytime I was on a high place I would be preoccupied with jumping off. Even worse, I was calculating how fast I'd have to drive to fly my SS off several launch points I had scoped out along my commute. I even did some physics calculations on one to predict the maximum splat. Hey, I'm an engineer.

I went for help, and I am doing lots better now.

Glad to hear that you're doing better.
I read some horror stories about Dads that were great until they went on Chantix then snuffed it.
I'd like vivid dreams and I've never considered suicide. But...
I'd hate to wake up dead and find that I'd snuffed it due to a chemical that was supposed to extend my life.
I'm pretty stable (depending on who you ask) but why tempt fate?

I'll find another way to quit.
Hiking and biking has worked for me in the past.
Huffing and puffing (!) while I do something that I truly enjoy when I'm healthy (not smoking) is a big motivator.

I hiked Mt. Washington in NH before. I won't even try it as a smoker.
I also rode my mt. bike from Marlboro Mass to Moultonboro NH (132 miles) overnight a few years back.

I'm stubborn and I have my mind set so I will quit soon.
I remember how much better I felt as a non smoker and want that back...
TBC...

Happy Mowgli the non smoker @Tuckerman's Ravine, Mt. Washington NH
