Drove the New Equinox
#11
Since the Eq and the HHR are two different vehicles and the E is quite a few thousands more I don't think they complete. Besides everything I read is the HHR won't be replaced when its time is up.

and I have to say I'm very impressed! The 2.4L engine had plenty of power, the design of the console was so much better than the HHR, and there was more than enough leg room. Even the LS has all the options I want. I'm just waiting to get details of the Cash to Clunkers discount program then I'll trade in my '98 Windstar. I can get more for it than the equity in my HHR.
I'm realy afraid the Equinox will pull many away from the HHR. We'll see!

The price isn't that much different. I can get what I want in an Equinox for less than the HHR except for the LTZ with the V6 engine. The new Equinox is cheaper than the old one. I would not need leather seats because the cupholders wouldn't be right next to the seats, getting them dirty all the time. The cloth in the Equinox is much better than in the HHR.
I did find one flaw. There is a chrome button on the storage unit in the middle of the dash. When the sun hits it, the driver can be blinded. I'd have to put some tape on it or paint it.
I think older adults will like this over the HHR because it sits higher and is easier to get in and out of. I think that is why many of them buy minivans.

I think the only reason the new one may appear cheaper is the 4-cyl base engine. Its standard all the way up to the top model, and in Canada saves you $1700+. The optional V6 is also smaller (3.0 vs 3.5), I had hoped the 3.6 would be available, that would be great with the new 6spd.

As far as competing with the HHR, no way. The equinox is a truck, the HHR is not. Higher center of gravity, more weight, ground clearance, available 4whl drive, more cargo space. No way the performance would be in the same league. SUV vs sport wagon, different markets. Some people would rather have a truck. (not me)

cargo + mpg
if that thing has more cargo (i mean enough to make a difference) , better mpg than the hhr , and all wheel drive , i may have to eat my words and go have a look at it.....to have all that sounds a little unbelievable to me esp if it has the same engine.....i'd rather take a 2.4 ecotec and retro fit it in my old dodge grand caravan , it's got enough cargo space to stack 4ft x 8ft sheets.....hmm, where is my torch.

I won't mind Buying One. I get the both of best worlds. Her Galant is Older, therefore she gets the HHR and I would sport the nox. Best of both worlds.
Yes it does have the 2.4 HOWEVER its DIC. Pushes 182HP 20/29 AWD. 2WD Not yet rated. I will take a 2LT please. $30,175...
Once the hype wears off i'm sure you could pick one up for 25k.
