Meanwhile, Chris and I have been together over 14 years. Thankfully, the company he works for gives benefits to partners.

That`s the other side, people claim commitment, stay together, have benifits paid out, then split. (not saying this happened here)
If this were a marriage, the legal system would be involved, and division of wealth would take place, just like hetros...
I say, let them/you get married, 50% of all marriages end with divorce in this country.

One of the main reasons we split was because he is a Mexican National, If I had been able to sponsor him to get his green card like any straight couple things may have been different.... tho not saying that was the reason for the split.

Sounds like two strikes against you, going in.
One thing for sure, no perception changes coming from this site, or country.

Legal gobbletygook! You build a mousetrap; they build a better mouse. The laws - uck! Just getting down into the guts of that story makes my eyes blur. If people were just allowed to be who they are and left alone as long as they live honorably --- why should anyone care who marries who? I'll never understand that.

But, now it's done and someone has to make sense out of it. Thank goodness, it's not me.

I'm not disagreeing. But it doesn't make majority rule right.

Sex with adult stepdaughter still incest: court
2 hours, 27 minutes ago

Ohio's Supreme Court ruled on Thursday that a state law barring incest applied even when the victim was the perpetrator's willing 22-year-old stepdaughter.
Attorneys appealing a man's 120-day sentence said the sex was consensual and argued the law was designed to protect children, not adults. The court disagreed.
"The plain language (in the law) clearly prohibits sexual conduct with one's stepchild while the stepparent-stepchild relationship exists. It makes no exception for consent of the stepchild or the stepchild's age," Judge Judith Lanzinger wrote.
If the man had divorced his wife and was no longer the daughter's stepfather, the statute would not apply, she added.
Defense lawyers said they might appeal.
