The excessive compensation aspect is understandable if you have $250,000 and up in student loans. The only thing more expensive than going to the doctor is becoming one.

I'm a public defender. I work in a system where I am pretty much committing malpractice on a daily basis simply because I don't have enough time to devote to all of my clients cases. Most of my clients shouldn't qualify for my services that are 100% subsidized by the state, but they'll cry or whine enough that the judge will appoint me anyway just so they don't have to work a little harder to afford a private attorney. The worst that could happen in my line of work is that someone gets sent to prison and then gets a new trial based on ineffective assistance of counsel if I really screwed up. The worst that could happen with a physician in the same situation is DEATH.

If I were a physician, I would open a private family practice and not accept any insurance except for HSA. Every patient would sign a full liability and indemnification waiver to a limit of $100,000 on malpractice claims. I would charge the same amount of money for an office visit as the average co-pay on an HMO/PPO plan. Any procedures or lab work would be on an ala-carte basis and nurse and lab tech time would be charged on a quarter-hourly basis. Even paying for all of these services out-of-pocket, you'd still save money if you opened an HSA through payroll deduction.

so if you get it, you will be complaining, like we Canadians, about how much tax you pay, and waiting times, because the system is clogged with a bunch of people visiting unnessesarily, because it's free. We have a pretty good system here in the great white north, but it could be better. I hurt my knee last April (torn miniscus) and still do not have a surgury date. This is the same injury that Eric Lindross had and was back on the ice in a matter of months. They say we do not have a 2 tier system here, but if you are a multi miliion dollar hockey player, things go faster for some reason.....but I'm not bitter...lol

Judging a book by it's cover. What did people say about slavery? What did people say about women's right to vote? What did people say about the Japanese residence during WWII? What did people say about...

Honestly most people seem to forget that shady and embarrassing part of US history. Until you remind them that is. It also seems like a lot of people younger than me that I get into discussions with have no clue what I'm talking about when the subject comes up. That's why I though it was awesome that Mike Shinoda did the track Kenji on the Fort Minor CD. I'm all for national health insurance but just like we have now people are going to abuse the system. I also have a hard time associating myself with Michael Moore. I'm not judging a book by the cover because the guy is one of the biggest pompous, arrogant, self-righteous, egotistical, and judgmental douche bags to ever walk the earth. That's probably why Matt and Trey made him a suicide bomber in Team America. His films and campaigns are nothing more than pure propaganda but lots of people soak them up like everything he says is 100% unbiased truth.

I'm not putting in my 2cents on this one, but I will say that I agree with this:

I'm not judging a book by the cover because the guy [Michael Moore] is one of the biggest pompous, arrogant, self-righteous, egotistical, and judgmental douche bags to ever walk the earth.
I have not read or watched anything that has come from Moore, except for an interview on a news (Fox, CNN, I can't remember which one). He talked incessantly without letting the interviewer get in any words, and I really didn't feel like he said anything at all. I don't know much about the medical system, and I won't pretend to, but I don't think I'll take this guy's word to hold any water just because everybody else soaks in his ramblings...

Making a comparison to Michael Moore's self serving interests to the other stuff you mentioned holds no water and is not even remotely related. How the hell did you come up with that??

Michael Moore??? No thanks....I don't care if he wrote a movie praising Ronald Reagan and the Republican Party...his opinions and ideas mean nothing to me. I'm still wondering how the hell he got to where he is at with the garbage he comes up with.

The issue is the United States National Health Insurance Act (HR 676), not Michael Moore. Just because Michael Moore attached his name to the bill, doesn't mean the Bill is bad or good. If you want to make an opinion without reading the bill, that's your prerogative. If you think I'm asking you to watch his movie, that's not what I'm saying. Besides, I think Michael Moore is a douche bag, but I don't let my opinion of him affect my view of the health care issues.

It's like JimDaddyo said, "it could be better". Everything could be better, but it doesn't get better by doing nothing. We need to look forward as well as move forward.
