Fun in the Windy City

Mrs. B/B and I were off today, so we took a little time to relax in the park and... fly a kite.
Got this pirate ship, there were a couple different ones to choose from, ( jet fighter, dragon...) thought the ship looked most unique (out of place if you will).
I wanted more height, but couldn`t find a store that sold string alone, next time...

That is neat, BB. Some people say "kid stuff", but man is it fun.

Had a WWII Army Signal Kite (surplus, not THAT old), used to fly it behind my sail boat in the Pacific off San Diego. Put out about 2000 feet of line...figure it was up about 850. Broke my heart, one day, when the line broke and lost it to the Sea Goddess.

Anyway, have fun.....that's what counts.

Hey B/B try fishing line. That's what I use here in Florida. Right now the winds are really strong so I have gone to 10lb test. Usually use 6 lb test

Hey!
That seems to have been a nice day off you both had. Its funny we just had a Kite flying day at Vets Park this past weekend here in the Hood. We had about 150 Adutls & youngsters flying kites. Fishing Line hey thats works thats what my kids & I use when we fly our Kites over the Lake at Calumet Park by the Indiana Border line. Kite Flyinig I have been doing this for over 23yrs. Its a great way to have fun and get Quality time with the family.
I think every one should fly a kite, They have a Kite Flying day at Grant Park every year in Down Town Chicago, They get over 500 Kite Flyers ever year its put on by the Chicago Park Dist. I feel stress free when I'm flying my Kite.

As you can see, Mrs. B/B has a reel type gadget, but fishing line always makes me nervous.
(1) wrong move, and there goes a finger...

NOPE no fingers lost. You can wind it on the reel that you use now.
Its smooth nylon and wont burn or cut like the string might. I have been using it for over 20 years now and no amputations so far. Damn just lost a finger

Hey
No matter what you use Fishing Line or String if a finger gets in the way its going to hurt no matter what you use. Remember it only hurts if you have no control. We have never had that problem as of yet and let me tell you with the winds off the Lake you really have to have control. Try it some time. I'm sure you will have a lot of fun. Flying that Kite when you have about 2000 ft of Line out is alot of Fun but you must have control. Its not that much fun pulling the Kite back in, Its can be a Bummer at times depending on the winds.

We must always think Safety 1st.

Definately looked liked a good day to be out enjoying.

The kite kinda gives new meaning to the term "The Flying Dutchman".
