Gas prices

I paid $3.19 a gallon in Romulus, MI last Saturday to fill the rental back up, and then $2.87 in St. Louis the same day to fill up my HHR.
The thing people who suggest not buying gas on a single day don't seem to understand is that gasoline and other petroleum products are fungible commodities. Even if we don't buy it that day, someone else will and the speculators will still make money. If the gummit starts throwing taxes on gas or puts price caps on it, we'll just have even higher gas prices or worse, fuel shortages.
Best thing to do is tighten the belt and do some good old-fashioned conservation. Carpool lanes are there for a reason and if people weren't so busy driving one-person-to-a-Sequoia during the daily commute, maybe they'd realize they could cut their fuel bill in half by commuting with one co-worker.

Just kidding , thanks for the input, point well taken..

...and I realize that carpooling isn't going to work for everyone. I know this. But for the majority of the people out there, I bet it could.
My Dad used to carpool with one of his co-workers every day for years because our family just needed to cut some costs. He cut his gas spending in HALF. I used to carpool with a friend to vo-tech every day back in high school and I had more money to go on dates that way. A little change in attitude goes a long way sometimes.

My wife and I carpool out of necessity, although we work at the same place.
My sons car was in the shop for a full body makeover, after getting hit (literally) on all four sides of his car...
I tried to nurse my van for a couple weeks, got it running, but it needs suspension work.(275,000 mi.) Anyway we let him drive the Beautiful one while his car was in surgery.
When the van stopped turning, (literally), we jumped on the bus.
$2.00 per ride, no transfers. It cost us $14.00 a day to get to work. Man that starts to add up after a while...
How do they expect people to use mass transit a those prices.
Not to mention the other riders, and the long waits between buses.
Man I love my HHR, even at $3.39 (in the hood today)
