Gas prices

High fuel prices will kill the US economy almost as fast as the Democrats. The US is the most mobil society in the world and much of our economy rotates around transportation. Inexpensive fuel allows transportation of goods more economically that any other country in the world and that spreads the jobs out across the nation. A decade of high priced fuel will only drive more jobs over seas where the difference can be made up by cheap labor, no benefits, and no unions to drive up the price of labor.

We don't have free healthcare. Well, it seems free until you realize how much taxes you pay each month. Sure you can go to doctors once in 7-10 years and still pay a lot. On the second hand - if you need an expensive operation, it may cost more than you paid in taxes. But I wouldn't call our healthcare free:)
Anyway, gas costs 6.85 here. That's not much if compared to Norway, for example.

there is HUGE differences inside europe in health care and the price of them.
We do have so called "free" healthcare, but that means working class heros are paying it. we have progressive tax upto around 50% of the brutto income.that includes also around 20% comminity charged tax depending on city/town where one lives. And still counties charge annual around 30USD fee when one has to go to E.R. or visits local public health care center. thats why I prefer going to private doctor since one gets FAST cure...and does not have to wait so long in queue...
for example our average john doe who earns 30 000 euros/ a year (around 40 000 USD) pays income taxes 30%, and that includes appr. 7% health care tax. but what isnt always told same time is that our country is one of the MOST expenisive in the world. Norway is even more expensive, but we are close by. For example in our southern cousin state, Estonia, average income is much lower, but so are the prices...and Estonians have one income prosent to all. I dig that!
--- the gasoline is today 8.6 USD/gallon...price of fuel includes moderate 75% different kind of tax or payments for environment etc.

Gas prices have dropped another couple of cents per gallon. I haven't needed to refuel since last week. ($3.899/gallon and I had a $0.45/gallon discount). That station now has a price of $3.819/gallon and I have a $0.50/gallon discount. I'll wait a few more days before I'll need to refuel.

Here's an old thread that ought to be brought back with today's prices. In eastern Ohio regular top tier (Exxon Mobil) is $ 4.09 Mid grade is $ 4.49 and Premium is $ 4.89. I'll be going to South Carolina soon in the HHR and report back fuel prices and fuel mileage...john
