Im going to put my neck on the block and blame Union labor..

Im sorry, but when you have to pay some goob $40.00 bucks an hour to show up, and the stories of paying some to just be on call, and not have to show up....it's easy to see why they choose to let foreign countries do the work. As for the Toyota thing,,,non union is what I heard about the plant in San Antonio. There you have it, in a nut shell.

Plant in Mexico

The only good thing I can see about this is that maybe it will provide jobs for Mexicans in Mexico and they won't have to come here to work and get free healthcare and other benefits.

You want to know how bad the outsourcing is? How about GM, Onstar, and GMAC firewall support going to India. They are the ones responsible for changes and proactive monitoring of all the firewalls/proxies as of the 28th of this month(actually they already have GM and GMAC, Onstar and the proxies will go on 8/28).

If you wonder what kind of people could be in charge of making sure your OnStar Firewalls are operational just check out this story.

Outsourcing Nightmare - Dell employee steals woman's nude pics

FYI if you have bought a new Dell machine lately and subscribe to their Free 2GB of online backup...read the fine print. You get a pop up asking you to accept that your information will be stored on servers outside of the country.

I don't know about you, but I sure as hell ain't having my information stored in another country that could decide to violate privacy because their laws aren't as strict.

Make 'em in Mexico

I'm not sure what the fools in US Government expected when they rammed thru NAFTA. Sure they're gonna make cars and every other damned thing south of the border. That will sure help the American worker and economy here in the good old USofA, now won't it. Repeal NAFTA!!

I'm pretty sure they didn't care about American workers when they created that..... They were just looking to increase profits for the companies so the rich can get richer.

GM to Invest $190 Million, Add 600 Jobs at Lansing Grand River2010-10-28

LANSING, Mich. – General Motors today announced a $190 million investment in its Lansing Grand River assembly plant for the production of a new Cadillac model. The investment will create 600 jobs and result in the addition of a second shift.

“America’s fastest-growing luxury brand this year is about to get even more competitive with the addition of an all-new small luxury car,” said GM Chief Executive Officer Dan Akerson. “This investment demonstrates GM’s commitment to Cadillac and to a strong U.S. manufacturing base.”

The announcement brings the total of new U.S. investment to more than $3.1 billion and more than 7,900 jobs that GM has created or retained in 21 U.S. plants since emerging from bankruptcy in July 2009.

Built in 2001, Lansing Grand River is GM’s second-newest U.S. assembly plant and the manufacturing home of the Cadillac CTS and STS as well as their V-series performance versions. Earlier this year Lansing Grand River received the J.D. Power and Associates Bronze Plant Award for initial quality.

Joe Ashton, UAW vice president of the GM Department, said, “Today’s announcement is further proof of what UAW President Bob King said earlier this summer, ‘The UAW recognizes the paramount importance of innovation, flexibility and partnership with management to respond to global economic pressures. We are proud to play our part in the turnaround at GM. Our mission is to make the highest quality products for the best value.’

“The members of UAW Local 652 have consistently demonstrated that they can compete with any labor force on the globe,” Ashton added. “The commitment, dedication, and hard work of GM’s UAW members provide the foundation for the positive news coming from the company.”

This year, the Lansing Grand River team launched the CTS Coupe, lauded by the automotive press for groundbreaking design and outstanding performance. The Coupe extends the CTS line, which has been named to Car and Driver’s 10 Best list for three straight years. It shares design cues with the CTS Sport Sedan, but the Coupe has a wider track, lower roofline and shorter length, giving it an aggressive stance and sleek, athletic profile

The timing of the new Cadillac and the new jobs as well as the start of the second shift will be announced later.

GM has made investments in many plants here in the states. They are moving the Aveo from Korea to here the new Buick will be built in Michigan. The Cruze has put a lot of money in Lordstown with more coming for an later additional model.

Too often we get reminded of what money is going out but too little do we get the news of the major investments here.

Plus the battery assembly for the volt in Brownstown, MI

I think they are seeing the advantages of bringing factories back here to the states.
