GM Workers go out on Strike...

Remuneration should always be based on merit. If I work twice as hard as the next guy and can produce twice as much product as him I should get twice the remuneration.
If I could got payed the same as everyone else I would have no motivation to work harder.
If you're comments are based on union principles than something is really flawed. There should be some sort of incentive for setting yourself apart from everyone else.

I've got some hard numbers what it costs my Employer to have me around Operating. For all you non union guys who think its in the $90 range+.
all rates are an hour
Health and welfare $5.65
pension $5.20
Apprenticeship program $0.30
Target Construction research fund $0.05
and the big number
Wage $29.65
total $40.85
Hummm thats a $50 difference from the 90 you guys were sayin. UAW wages are less than this BY FAR
As far as your argument for merit raises New hire employees have a $2 an hour wage reduction for the first 1000 hours worked, then a $1 reduction for the second 1000 hours worked and thereafter is at full scale. Also they are on probation for the first 6 months where at any time they may be dismisses without reason. In 6 months you know if someone is worth keeping or not. Doesnt seem like so much when you really think about it.

Now add the value of the pension and retirement medical benefits to that......

There in lies the problem... your content with being lower middle class, and letting the execs get all the money. Where we arent content with just getting by. We want our piece of the pie. The money is there or the union wouldn't ask for it. The problem is that it cuts into the profits of GM by paying a slightly higher wage.
And the execs get their million dollar bonus's by how much profit they made the company...
It may be the WRONG move financially if all the workers in the US stop earning a living and no one can buy their product.... Some of you just dont grasp the big picture!

The bottom line is a job is only worth so much no matter what the executives earn. Those executives are not union!! Therefore they can earn a lot more. Many have higher degrees so they could earn a lot more. Many have pressures Union members will never know.
A job is only worth so much. There are no laws saying workers have to share in profits. Unions try to make that a law. No unskilled worker deserves to earn more then a chemical engineer yet they are demanding it. Well no they are not. Their Union is.
If all workers stopped buying stuff? There are not that many union workers left to cause a blip in the national economy if they stopped buying stuff. Besides they won't stop buying stuff. They will use credit.

Wow..
We've already got our medical benefits taken away from us long ago.. when we retire...
Its similar... They had billions tie up for health care for paying retirement folks.. they found a loop hole... people that were already retired gave them 30K to find their own health care for the rest of their life... People who weren't retire yet... Had to just find their own...
I do get a pension from my employer when I retire.... but, still think thats in jeopardy too for all retirement folks.... (I do contribute to my own 401K plan also..)

You want to be upper middle class? Don't expect it from a laborer's set of skills.

Here is a quote from out VP
" You know whats wrong with our country? Its the middle class."
hes the former CEO of Haliburton. You know the largest construction company in the world... All they want to do is make themselves richer at the expense of the working class ie. the poor!
Well I think I'm done with this discussion as I dont think I can change your mind. They say "Ignorance is bliss."
Glad your happy
Edit: the number of union workers climbs by 5% every year.

When i retire the employer doesnt pay me a dime anymore... he doesnt buy my healthcare or pay my pension... I think thats where you guys think we union guys are taking them to the cleaners. $83,000 a year to do what? Watch a machine? Screw in a door handle?
Really now you really believe people doing a job anyone can do with minimal training are worth $83,000 a year? Some doctors don't even make that! Sorry There is the very reason you will get no public support or sympathy.
I would bet there are a large number of people who would take those jobs at $25 an hour.
You guys are living in a cocoon. Thats far more then the average FAMILY earns!!!! LOL

Okay $40/hr equates to $1600 a week of compensation not counting overtime.

Chris'sHHR,
It's easy to see you are pro union. They are offered in my line of work. I declied. As did each and everyone in my area. Hell of a lot more room for advancement than dealing with a union. You can call me lower middle income or upper lower income or whatever they hell you like. If those numbers you posted are your salary, then I know I at least make more than you and that is not including my benefits, my retirement military check, and my VA disability check. You union can not beat what I have already achieved in life. I take personal pride in what I have done with my life. I know the goals I achieved were mine, and not hidden behind some union. I have studied what they offer. I can do much better on my own. And I have done so.
This strike is going to hurt a lot of people, but you have already stated you only want your "share" of the pie and could care less about others. When I hear union member talk like that, it reinforces my thoughs on unions. If you want a life style that allows the butt picker next to you to make the same as you, hope life works out for you. For me, get ride of the butt picker and either give me a raise or hire someone that can do the job at my level. Of course the butt picker wants the union so he will have "job security".
Guess it time for me to use that ignore feature. I'm tired of hearing some of the crap here.
End Rant......

Most likely this statement from the above article won't affect my next week
delivery..
"The segment of the trucking industry that delivers new vehicles to dealerships is the sector where there are the fewest non-union alternatives to the Teamsters."
