First, I want to wish all my fellow Veterans a Happy Veterans Day, It should by a day of rest for all veterans, a mandatory off day...
That being said, one of the first things we learned about in boot camp was the Geneva Convention, Our rights and responsiblities. Those rules were set up to protect both sides from treating captives in a less than humane matter, not strip them of all hope of release, not do whatever comes to your head that may seem like fun, but to treat a captive the way you would expect to be treated.
The other ( among other things) thing we were told was, there are lawful orders and there are unlawful orders. You know which are which, and when you chose to do something you know to be unlawful, (for what ever reason, threatened, coerced, or you just didn`t care ) there was always the possibility that the brig would become your next address.
Those basic theories keep/kept most of us in check, that`s the American way. That`s what we fight/fought for.

Ex-military spouse, mother of an Air Force Academy cadet, and 17-year Air Force civil servant. No, I never served but I've been around the military for a long time and will continue for years to come.
The military can be a great way of life. It has changed a lot but who else will pay your housing cost, food costs, and let you see the world? It may not be the part of the world you want to see, but it's still great. Hey, they brought me to Florida and I don't plan to leave any time soon!
Thank you to all our military for doing what it takes to defend our right to freedom!
