How's your heart?

I probably should tell the doctor because there is a history of both heart problems and diabetes in my family. My doctor wanted me to get tested for diabetes the last time I saw him for a check up but I blew it off. Thanks!

What's funny is that I work in the local hospital and got a burn early in the week, I went up to emerg to get it looked at today and they took my bp also... 155 over 110
I asked one of my co-workers what that ment and she said that 'normal' is 120/80. The big number is the pressure your heart is exerting when it's contracted, the small one is what it is when it's relaxed. So mine is almost as high when it's relaxed as a 'normal' persons is when it's working. Not too good...
It's an indication that either you're stressed... in pain... whatever, but you're making your heart work harder than 'average' to get blood through your body. I was told that is high but it's in the 'keep an eye on it' range, not the 'why are you still breathing' range

I take medicine every day to keep my BP under control.
My BP is around 125/70. It was 210/120 when I had my heart attack in 2004.
They replaced 3 arteries in me.
So all I can say is watch it closely.
Normal sugar is 100-----mine is 92
Normal cholesterol is 200-----mine is 138

Hey, you know what? Numbers are numbers, averages are averages. Go to your doctor and get checked. Why play around?
My BP is around 108/54 (drugs), my cholesterol was 118 in May (drugs), I bleed if I get a scratch (drugs), I have battle scars (courtesy of UMass/Memorial Interventional Cardiology). Don't play games with your health, keep an eye out for warning signs and DON'T IGNORE THEM (I did), and take care of yourself! You don't want to be in the hospital and have the priest stop in to give you last rites..............now, let's talk baseball....
How's about them Boston Red Sox???

I have been on BP meds for 15 years.
The latest thinking in conventional (mainstream) medicine is that 120/80 is "high" normal. But doctors don't seem to get too alarmed unless the lower (diastolic) number is over 90.
My medicines are keeping me at about 125/90 and my doctor is on the verge of increasing my (already heavy) dosage levels. However, he is stalling, hoping I will get up off my lazy derriere and get some exercise.
There comes a point where the unwanted efffects of medications pose more of a threat than slightly elevated blood pressure.
Every one of us is different, so there are no unequivocal statements that can be made about blood pressure, except (perhaps) - the lower, the better. And there is such a thing as too low.

Your base line is 120/70 no matter what. I have been there and did that.

Yes, we all need to watch our health more and start earlier. I just went back to the doctor and I'm down 15 lbs but both my blood sugar and cholesterol went up a little. Go figure! So now she's added Lipitor to my other meds. Man, is that expensive! Guess I should have taken eggs and more dairy products out my diet. The price of milk will make that easy to do.
I'm glad to read most of you have overcome your health problems. I hope all others get the care they need as soon as possible.

I'm glad I started this thread. Seems to me that I have a few folks thinking more about their health, and a little less of everything else. Remember - You can't drive your HHR if you are dead.
