Officials: U.S. soldier in Baghdad kills 4 troops, self

From Chris Lawrence
CNN

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- A U.S. soldier in Baghdad opened fire on his fellow soldiers Monday, killing four American troops before killing himself, a senior defense official said.

Three others were wounded in the incident at the U.S. military base, Camp Liberty, in Baghdad, the official said.

The U.S. military issued a news release saying only that five coalition soldiers were killed Monday in a shooting at Camp Liberty.

The military news release did not give the soldiers' nationalities or provide further details.

And guess where I work at I'm at Camp Liberty about 200 yards from where this happened in fact I drove by about 2 minutes before all this and heard the Gun shots and thought they sounded louder then usual

And now they are reporting that he is not dead, but was subdued by others and is now in custody.

The officials say the shootings happened on Camp Liberty at a stress clinic, where troops can go for help with the stresses of combat or stress from personal issues.

it is sad these incidents happen.

We had a guy who looked like he was going to do this same thing while I was over there. Luckily a Staff Sergeant in my unit pistol whipped him and we got him under control. He had to walk around base for 3 weeks with no ammo and wasn't allowed on missions.

Unfortunately, Current and post traumatic stress disorder can be serious/deadly stuff.

I was listening to NPR the other day, and there was a General (sorry I don't remember his name) who lost both of his soldier sons-one to suicide, the other KIA. He now helps/advises the military on helping soldiers with PTSD. It was a good example of helping others following such a tragic loss.

His parting words were from a banner left by one of the son's gravesites...

In my unit over there we had similar event had to take his M16 away and put under 24 hour watch because he threatened his section sergeant life and his own. It is a shame events like this happen. I can't believe he had his weapon if he was getting tested for stress and put through vigorous mental heath test
